Choosing a God/Goddess
There are some good sites out there for priest characters but this article is not intended for them really. The aim here is to explain the different deities, explain their usefulness to non-priests and how to keep in favour with them.
As far as I'm aware, both wizards and witches are unable to follow a God. If you are a member of any other guild then a God is well worth considering.
There are seven deities that can be followed in the game. Below is a summary of their vital information.
Fish
- Description - God of Fishermen
- Alignment - between neutral and evil
- Rituals - Breathe Underwater and Splash.
- Bonus earned - when underwater
Gapp
- Description - God of Fine Clothing
- Alignment - between quite good and neutral
- Rituals - Cool and Mend
- Bonus earned - when wearing fashionable clothes (refer gapp to check the current fashion)
Gufnork
- Description - God of Fluff
- Alignment - between quite good and neutral
- Rituals - Cure Light Wounds and Summon Fluff
- Bonus earned - when carrying fluff
Hat
- Description - Vulture-Headed God of Unexpected Guests
- Alignment - between neutral and quite evil
- Rituals - Dark Sight and Warm
- Bonus earned - when in the temple of any God (possibly only at the high altar) or when in a crowd (possibly only a crowd of priests)
Pishe
- Description - Goddess of Slight Showers
- Alignment - between as good as you can get and barely good
- Rituals - None. Only priests may follow Pishe.
- Bonus earned - when in the rain
Sandelfon
- Description - God of Corridors
- Alignment - between barely good and barely evil
- Rituals - Calm and Detect Alignment
- Bonus earned - when indoors
Sek
- Description - The Seven-Handed God
- Alignment - barely evil and as evil as you can get
- Rituals - Light and Parch
- Bonus earned - when in combat
Choosing the deity that is right for you will consist of several factors. Pick one that suits the image you want for your character. Pick one who's alignment limits suit the alignment you are aiming for. You may also want to consider the "Bonus earned" entry as this describes the situation that will make rituals easier to perform. The most important factor will probably be the rituals you can earn though.
Good or neutral deities are easier to follow as these alignments are easier to maintain.
For an assassin I would recommend Gapp and Hat as being Gods that are particularly in character.
Once you have chosen which deity you wish to follow you will need to locate a temple of theirs that contains a high altar. Pray to your chosen god at their high altar to join their religion, for example, pray to gapp. Note that it must be a high altar (according to its description) that you pray at.
To find out the requirements for each ritual, I would recommend going to either :

or

Note that at the time of writing however, the ritual requirements for Summon Fluff are incorrect on these sites (so I hear) and should say that you need 30 levels of fa.ri.mi.area.
