Display Settings
Many people struggle through the Discworld for some while before getting their display settings optimized. Do you lack any coloured text? Is there a large gap on the right hand side of your output window that no text ever ventures into? If so then please read on.
First colour. This is easy. Just type term mxp (or term ansi if your client software doesn't support MXP) and press enter. Now perform a look command. The exits should be coloured green by default. You have colour!
For the display width part I will assume (as with my sound section) that MUSH client is being used for the connection to the MUD. See the Links section if you don't have it.
First we need to set the display width within the client. Click on the picture of a blue screened monitor on the tool bar to bring up the output window (or press Alt+5 on the keyboard if you have trouble finding it). The width to set will depend on your monitor resolution and whether you run the client full screen. This is not a problem. Just click the "Adjust width to window size now" button and the number in the box above will set itself correctly. Mine sets to 125 for example rather than the default of 80. Remember this number and press "Ok".
Now we have our end of things sorted, but the MUD needs to be informed of this change. In MUD, type options terminal cols = 125 (change 125 to whatever your own number was in MUSH) and press enter. Another way of informing the MUD would be to type term network to trigger auto-detection of your settings but remember to follow this command with another term mxp (or term ansi if your client software doesn't support MXP) to get your colours back on.
Now try another look. Did it fill the screen from edge to edge? If so then well done! The skills command is another great way of testing your new layout. The table should adjust to fit your screen nicely now.
