Testway U11 Division 1
Match Reports
Andover
FC 0 Bishops Waltham Dynamoes 'B' 0; Saturday, 4th
March 2006
Andover
A, sponsored by Peak Health and Fitness,
entertained an improved and determined Bishops
Waltham. Andover found it difficult to get their
passing game going on the hard surface and, with
the Bishops Waltham defenders closing down space
quickly and massing around the ball, found it hard
to get any good balls down the wings. Andover's
defence of Luke Holman, Rob Weeks, James Todd and
goalkeeper Mike (the cat) Adams had to stay alert
as several long balls from Bishops Waltham players
kept them on their toes but their goal was never
really threatened and the game stayed scoreless.
Half time 0-0.
The second half saw the nippy Gavin Birrell push
further forward, leaving Mike Todd more space to
play in the centre, thus allowing Gavin Birrell to
support striker and captain James McArthur. A ball
was passed wide to Dolton Crompton who hit a peach
of a cross to James McArthur who then rifled the
ball into the net with his left foot to make the
score 1-0. This inspired Andover, who went
searching for more goals and a second soon followed
with the classy Dolton Crompton finishing his own
run with an excellent strike from the edge of the
area. Andover were now able to find the space to
allow their passing game to get going down the
wings. Some excellent crossing helped Andover's man
of the match for the second game running, Owen
Trapnell, complete a fine hat trick with some very
cool finishing. Kieron Reeves came on for the
injured Gavin Birrell looking to add to his good
goal tally for the season but found the Bishops
Waltham boys digging in again to hold the score
line down. Full time 5-0.

Barton
Stacey 0 Andover FC 0; Saturday, 18th February
2006
Peak
Health and Fitness sponsored Andover 'A' put in a
good team performance and can consider themselves
unlucky to come away with only a share of the
points against Barton Stacey.
Andover started the game well with good play from
the in form duo of Gavin Birrell and Michael Todd.
After winning the ball in midfield, Andover's first
attack came from a good through ball that released
James McArthur to run toward goal only to have his
shot on target well saved and pushed wide by the
Barton keeper. From the resulting Andover corner, a
fine shot from Michael Todd flew just past the
outside of the Barton goal. With confidence growing
within the team, Andover continued to push forward,
creating chances from good play on the wing from
Owen Trapnell and Dolton Crompton. However, Andover
found the Barton defensive line too strong to
break. Half Time 0-0
The second half continued in much the same way with
Andover dominating the play. However, they found
themselves unable to break the Barton defensive
line with their keeper in top form. The best of the
chances came from an excellent run down the wing
from Dolton Crompton who crossed the ball to the
feet of McArthur only for his shot to be well
saved.
As the game progressed, the Andover defence of
James Todd, Robert Weeks and Kieron Reeves, with
Michael Adams in goal, all had to be alert as
Barton pushed forward. A special mention must go to
Kieron Reeves, who made some important tackles and
good clearances in a position new to him. Full time
0-0
Man of the match Owen Trapnell.

Alderbury
0 Andover FC 1; Saturday, 4th February 2006
Andover
A, sponsored by Peak Health and Fitness, kept up
their impressive away form with a well-deserved
victory against Alderbury to take them into the
semi final draw for the cup.
Andover started well with the midfield duo of
Michael Todd and Gavin Birrell playing their best
football together this season, winning the battle
for possession, allowing the team to push forward.
Andover's first attack came as a result of some
good play from Owen Trapnell, who released an
excellent through ball into the path of James
McArthur, who ran onto it and put his shot wide.
This seemed to spur on the home side, who found
their advances stopped by the resolute defensive
line of Luke Holman, Robert Weeks and James Todd.
Mickey Adams, in goal again, made some good saves
and decisive clearances. After soaking up some
pressure, Andover pushed forward again. Michael
Todd delivered a defence splitting ball through to
James McArthur, who ran onto it, only for his shot
to be saved well by the Alderbury keeper. The
decisive breakthrough came after some good midfield
work, allowing James McArthur to run onto another
through ball. Whilst his first shot was well saved,
he calmly slotted home the rebound. Half time
1-0
The second half saw a determined home side come out
trying to push forward only for Andover, showing a
desire to win with good team spirit, holding their
positions. Michael Todd was playing his best
football to date this season, breaking up
Alderbury's midfield advances, allowing the
attacking formation to push forward. Another fine
through ball released James McArthur, who ran clear
only, to be brought down in the box. The resulting
penalty was well saved. The hard working Owen
Trapnell was substituted by Kieron Reeves to give
some fresh legs up front, but Andover seemed to sit
back and defend too deep, allowing Alderbury to
pressurise the defence, who again found themselves
equal to their forays. In the last few minutes,
Andover were able to push forward. A great run on
the right wing from Dolton Crompton resulted in an
excellent shot that was tipped over the bar by the
Alderbury keeper. Full time 1-0. Man of Match
Michael Todd.
This was an outstanding team performance against a
strong Alderbury side in which the whole team
showed a great desire to win with an impressive
all-round display. Well-played lads!!!

Andover
FC 0 Andover New Street 1; Saturday, 28th January
2006
Andover A
sponsored by Peak Health and Fitness entertained
local rivals New Street at home. Andover were
looking to continue in the same style that saw them
win at Tidworth the week before, unfortunately New
Street had other ideas and made the game a real
battle right from the whistle. New Street had a
game plan and stuck to it, giving the Andover
midfield of Mike Todd and Gavin Birrell a fight for
possession. This stifled Andover and made it hard
to get the ball out wide to James McArthur or
Dolton Crompton. However, Andover's defence of
James Todd, Luke Holman and Rob Weeks played well
and marshalled the New Street forward runs
comfortably and the ever reliable Mikey Adams in
goal never looked too worried. Half time 0-0.
The second half started the same way the first half
had gone with Andover finding it difficult to find
a way through the will drilled New Street lines,
making there centre forward of Kireon Reeves almost
a spectator. Andover made a change and brought on
Owen Trapnell and pushed their Captain James
McArthur up front, but New Street stuck to the task
and battled for every ball. This game was going to
be settled by the one goal and it was New Street
that got it with their striker pouncing on a loose
ball to slot home the winner from outside the box.
Full time 0-1
Man of the match went to James Todd.

Clarendon
& Tidworth 0 Andover FC 'A' 3; Saturday, 21st
January 2006
Peak
Health & Fitness sponsored Andover A continued
their unbeaten away form to take all three points
against Clarenden & Tidworth.
The game started at a steady pace with both teams
battling in midfield for possession, with the
Andover duo of Gavin Birrell and Michael Todd
combining well to break up the home side's
advances. Following some good play from the back,
an excellent through ball allowed Birrell to run
through and coolly slot home for Andover's
first.
Clarenden & Tidworth immediately came back at
Andover but, with the defensive line of James Todd,
Luke Holman and the impressive Robert Weeks all
playing well and with goalkeeper Adams on top form
ever alert in goal making some good decisive
clearances, they were unable to break through.
With the home side pushing forward, Andover cleared
the ball to Dolton Crompton who went on a solo run
down the left wing before releasing a stunning
strike which flew in to take a half time lead
2-0.
The second half saw the home side come out with a
determined team spirit, pushing forward once again
to find their advances stopped or cleared.
Following some good defensive work, Owen Trapnell
was allowed space to make a good run down the left
wing and put an excellent ball across to Kieron
Reeves whose shot on goal forced a good save from
the keeper.
Andover continued to push forward. The lively James
McArthur picked up the ball in midfield and with
excellent skill passed a couple of defenders to
strike a well deserved goal topping up what was an
all round excellent team display. Full time 3-0

Worthies
0 Andover FC 'A' 1; Saturday, 14th January 2006
Andover A
sponsored by Peak Health and Fitness travelled to
the Worthies looking to get back to winning ways on
a wet and awkward pitch. Both teams started very
brightly and with Andover playing down the hill in
the first half, it was Andover's forwards that made
the early attacks.
Worthies settled and soon put Andover under
pressure and, if not for some fine defending by
Luke Holman, Rob Weeks, James Todd and the
excellent Mickey Adams in goal, they could have
taken the lead with some good passing and moving.
Midway through the first half, a great run from
Dolton Crompton forced a corner from which Owen
Trapnell hit a peach of a kick which enabled Kieron
Reeves to stab in from 2 yards to give Andover the
lead. Worthies stepped up the pace and again asked
questions of the Andover defence which held out for
a 1-0 lead at half time.
The second half saw Andover playing the kind of
football that kept them unbeaten in the first half
of the season. Captain James McArthur, playing in
centre midfield with Mike Todd, started to open the
game up with some excellent running and passing and
a solo effort saw him make the Worthies keeper pull
off a superb save to push the ball over the bar.
From the resulting corner, the big defender Rob
Weeks went just over with a strong header. Andover
kept pushing forward looking for a second but found
the Worthies defence solid and hard to break
down.
This was a more solid and positive performance all
round, even with midfield maestro Gavin Birrell
missing. Well done to all!
Man of the match was shared by Luke Holman and
James McArthur but could have gone to several
others. Final score
1-0.

Andover
FC 'A' 0 Alderbury 1; Saturday, 7th January
2006
Andover
A, sponsored by Peak Health and Fitness, came up
against a well drilled and organised Alderbury side
in this top of the table clash. Andover were
looking to protect their unbeaten start to the
season but however straight from the whistle
Andover knew it was going to be a hard battle as
Alderbury pushed them back immediately and if not
for some fine goalkeeping by Mikey Adams and some
last ditch defending by Andover they would have
gone into the half time break behind. Half time
0-0.
The second half started in the same way with
Alderbury putting Andover on the back foot again
and their persistence paid off with a goal coming
from a corner midway though the half. This seemed
to spur Andover on and with Kieron Reeves coming on
up front allowing the captain James McArthur to
drop into the midfield the team picked up the pace
and went in search for the equaliser. Unfortunately
it was too late and Alderbury run out winners
1-0.
This was just one of those games where the lads
were just not at the races and so we will put it
behind us and get back to the form that saw us
unbeaten in the first half of the season. Man of
the match went to Owen Trapnell. Full time 0-1.

Andover
FC 'A' 2 Andover FC 1; Saturday, 10th December
2005
Peak
Health & Fitness sponsored Andover pulled each
other out of the cup, so one side had to lose their
unbeaten record and it was the "A" side that came
out on top.
The first half started brightly for the "B" side
and Mickey Adams had to be alert on a couple of
occasion to stop the on coming Robbie Skeates and
Matty Jenkins. This seemed to kick start the "A"
side and they took control of the midfield starting
to cause the back line of Sam Edwards, Shane Wells
and the outstanding Jake Puplett a few problems.
This was rewarded when Dolton Crompton beat Wells
to the ball and cut it back on to his right foot to
score past Connor Guiver. Andover "B" pushed up but
were caught out offside on too many occasions from
the well drilled Rob Weeks, Luke Holman and James
Todd. Trying to get the equaliser, the midfield of
Andover 'B' were pushed up too far and when a
clearance never made them, James McArthur pounced
on the loose ball and was allowed to run to close
to goal without being tackled, he struck a great
strike to make it 2-0. The half time whistle
couldn't come soon enough for the "B" side who were
being out fought and over run by the buoyant "A"
side . Half Time 2-0
In the second half the "B" team composed there
selves and put in a battling effort Ryan Coleman
had a good shot well saved and Sam Cook was unlucky
not to get the rebound. Andover "B" pushed forward
and were always likely to be caught on the break
especially from the sprightly Kieron Reeves. Liam
Williams scored a great individual goal running
from inside his own half around the defence and
keeper to slot in from the narrowest of angles.
Michael Todd and Gavin Birrell dug in deep for the
"A" side midfield and from a great pass from Birrel
the "B" side conceded a corner, from which the "A"
side thought they had scored from only to waved
away by the referee. The "B" side kept going for
the equaliser and from one of their corners Skeates
had a header cleared off the line. This was how the
game stayed until the final whistle. Full Time
2-1.
This game was played in a great competitive spirit
by all the players ho know each other so well, so
WELL DONE ALL.

Andover
FC 'A' 7 Littleton 2; Saturday, 3rd December
2005
Peak
Health and Fitness sponsored Andover 'A' continued
they're unbeaten run with a steady performance
against a battling Littleton side. The game started
at a fast pace with the midfield of Birrell,
Crompton, Todd and Trapnell passing the ball around
with great accuracy, enabling McArthur to slot in
the first goal quite quickly. Littleton came back
hard but the ever ready Adams pulled off a
perfectly timed save stopping what was a powerful
strike. The Andover defence of Weeks, Holman and
Todd were always vigilant and stopped Littleton's
advances. Andover's second goal came from a goal
kick clearance, which was superbly flicked on by
Crompton to McArthur who ran on and with a superb
strike slotted home. Half time 2-0.
Andover came out for the second half looking more
relaxed and some good passing moves sent Birrell in
to make the score 3-0. Littleton fought back with a
defence splitting run that gave them their first
goal, but Andover seemed spurred on by this and
quickly came back to get their fourth goal, number
two for Birrell. Littleton now picked up the pace
and went on a hard push forward that brought them
their second goal to make it 4-2. At this point,
Andover changed their formation, bringing on Reeves
to replace Trapnell. The team continued putting the
pressure on Littleton and the chances came. Michael
Todd took a fantastic strike from outside the area
that hit the bar and was unlucky not to go in. Then
Reeves got two goals in quick succession to make
the score 6-2, with Crompton finishing the game off
nicely with a strong run ending in Andover's last
goal of the day. Full time 7-2.
A good team performance that the boys should be
very happy with . Man of the Match: Michael
Todd.

Andover
FC 'A' 2 Whitchurch United 0; Saturday, 20th
November 2005
Peak
Health and Fitness sponsored Andover Youth A put in
an excellent team performance earning all three
points against a well organised Whitchurch
side.
Whitchurch attacked from the first whistle, but the
Andover defence of James Todd, Luke Holman and
Robert Weeks stood strong and looked comfortable as
they soaked up the early pressure.
The first goal came for Andover from a well taken
goal kick from goalkeeper Michael Adams, who
cleared the ball fast to Dolton Crompton, catching
the Whitchurch side on the back foot. Crompton
played a defence-splitting through ball to allow
Kieron Reeves to run clear and coolly slot home the
ball.
With Whitchurch pushing forward, Michael Adams was
again called on to make another impressive
goalkeeping decision by coming out of his area to
clear the ball.
Andover started to control the game in midfield and
were soon rewarded when Michael Todd, Gavin
Birrell, Dolton Crompton and James McArthur, all
playing well, pushed forward, putting pressure on
the away side's defence. This resulted in a goal
mouth scramble which eventually found the back of
the net from another great finish from Reeves. Half
time 2-0
The second half saw the introduction of Owen
Trapnell in midfield and, with the midfield linking
up well with the attack, Andover continued their
good play. Ever growing in confidence, their runs
at goal were thwarted by the steady Whitchurch
defence and some fine saves by their keeper.
This half showed the excellent team spirit within
the squad, as they had to concentrate and battle
right up to the final whistle. Full time 2-0

Bishop
Waltham Dynamos 'B' 0 Andover FC 'A' 13; Saturday,
13th November 2005
Andover
A, sponsored by Peak Health and Fitness traveled to
Bishop Waltham to play a game on a small wet pitch.
The game started fairly evenly with Andover playing
up the hill. Andover took the lead midway through
the first half with a strike from James McArthur.
Dolton Crompton netted the second and Mickey Adams
pulled off a couple of good saves to make the half
time score 2-0.
Playing down the hill in the second half Andover
took the game to Bishop Waltham and from the
restart Owen Trapnell laid a through ball for James
McArthur to net his second. McArthur then returned
the compliment for Trapnell to score.
McArthur then went on to score his hat trick. The
ever reliable Gavin Birrell then chipped in with a
great finish . Owen Trapnell was then replaced by
Kieron Reeves who came on with great effect to
score two quick goals, McArthur then went on a solo
run to net his fifth and Andover's ninth. Not to be
outdone the fleet footed Dolton Crompton netted two
more to complete his hat trick and Kieron Reeves
got another to complete a hat trick of at tricks.
This was a very sporting game conducted with a good
attitude and credit to Bishop Waltham who never
gave up the fight. Man of the match went to Robert
Weeks who stay focused all game aided by the
reliable full backs James Todd and the ever
improving Luke Holman. A special mention goes to
Mike Todd who played despite being poorly with a
bad chest. He finally ran out of energy with ten
minutes left and came off to enable Raj Hassan-Ali
to make his league debut. Full time 13-0

Andover
FC 'A' 2 Barton Stacey 2; Saturday, 6th November
2005
Andover A sponsored by Peak health and Fitness
played a very highly motivated and spirited Barton
Stacey. Barton battled and harassed straight from
the whistle. However, it was Andover who struck
first with a well drilled shot from James McArthur
going in off the post. Barton put Andover back
under pressure straight from the restart winning a
corner from which they scored with a header. Barton
pushed forward again and caught the Andover defence
square to score to take a 2-1 lead at half
time.
In the second half Andover stepped up their efforts
and with the defence of James Todd, Robert Weeks
and Luke Holman marshaling the Barton forwards
better and with more passion, thus enabling the
midfield of Gavin Birrell and Mike Todd more space
to be able to push forward and with the two wingers
of Owen Trapnell and Dolton Crompton pushing in
wider roles this created space for Dolton Crompton
to score, leveling the game at 2-2. Andover pushed
forward looking for the winning goal and James
McArthur going close to wining it with a shot that
went just wide. From the resulting goal kick the
ball broke over the top of the Andover defence and
it took a brave challenge on the edge of the area
by Andover's keeper Mickey Adams to deny Barton
Stacey all three points. Man of the match award
went to Mickey Adams.
Final score 2-2

Andover
New Street 0 Andover FC 'A' 4; Saturday, 29th
October 2005
Andover
A, sponsored by Peak Heath and Fitness Centre,
produced their best team performance of the season
against locals rivals Andover New Street to come
away with a well deserved victory.
Andover A started well and looked organised, with
the midfield of Michael Todd and Gavin Birrell
winning the early battle for possession, allowing
the team to push forward. After some good defensive
work, the ball was passed out wide to James
McArthur who crossed the ball into Kieron Reeves.
His excellent first touch opened up the space
necessary for him to release a stunning strike that
flew into the bottom corner of the goal.
This seemed to open the game up with New Street
pushing forward only for their forays to be stopped
by the Andover defence of Luke Holman, Robert
Weeks, James Todd and Michael Adams, ever alert in
goal. Again from a defensive position, Andover
passed the ball wide to McArthur who used his pace
and skill down the right wing to fire his shot into
the goal. Half Time 2-0
The second half saw a spirited New Street come out
trying to push forward only for Andover, who again
as a team looked strong, to stand up well to the
advances from the home team. With Andover growing
in confidence and passing the ball well, more good
play forced a corner which was half cleared before
Trapnell controlled the ball outside the area and
drilled a powerful shot into the back of the net.
McArthur sealed the victory from the penalty spot
to give Andover a well deserved win. Full time
4-0
This was an outstanding team performance against a
strong New Street side in which the whole team
should be proud off the part they played.

October 2005
Peak
Health & Fitness sponsored Andover FC 'A' moved
to the top of the table with a hard earned victory
over a battling Clarendon and Tidworth team. A
tight first half produced no goals. After the
break, Andover FC opened the scoring through a
cracking goal from Crompton, though Clarendon
equalised almost immediately after. An unfortunate
handball from a corner led to Crompton thumping
home the resultant penalty to give Andover the lead
before McArthur sealed the points with a stunning
goal after he outpaced the defence before slipping
the ball past the keeper. Special mention must go
to man of the match Birrell who produced another
outstanding display.

Andover
FC 'A' 2 Worthies 1; Saturday, 1st October 2005
Peak
Fitness sponsored Andover FC 'A' played an unbeaten
Worthies looking to protect their own unbeaten
record.
Andover had to readjust their side at the start of
the game by pulling the prolific goal scorer James
McArthur into midfield. Both sides made steady
starts but it was Andover who found the net first
with the excellent Birrell scoring his first goal
of the season directly from a corner. Half time
1-0
The second half saw Andover increase the tempo with
McArthur back to his former striking role and with
some hard running from the Andover midfield line up
of Crompton, Birrell, Mike Todd and Trapnell
finding space on the flanks. The ball was played to
McArthur for him to find the net securing
Andovers second goal.
This stirred the Worthies into life and they
started asking questions about the quality of the
Andover defence. All the defenders stood up to the
task with Holman, Weeks and the reliable James Todd
having another great game. But the Worthies
persistence paid off with a well organised corner
catching Andover cold and they pulled a goal back.
This stirred the Worthies on even more and with
them winning another corner it was down to Adams
between the sticks to settle the lads down with
some fine keeping. Final score 2-1
This was a hard fought game with Andover edging it
and Man of the match went to James Todd. Well
battled, lads!

Alderbury
0 Andover FC 'A' 0; Saturday, 24th September
2005
Andover
travelled to Alderbury where they played a very
tough match in which both teams were evenly matched
on the day and came away sharing the points.
The game started with a midfield battle with both
teams cancelling out each other's attacks. However,
it was the Alderbury side whose hard work paid off
first with an attack that called upon Michael Adams
in goal to pull off what was going to be the first
of several excellent saves as he proved to be the
backbone of a solid Andover defence.
The defence of James Todd, Robert Weeks, and
Michael Todd stood up well to the forward advances
of the Alderbury attacks and both wing backs
combined with the midfield to put some tidy passing
football moves together as the team began to pick
up the pace and put pressure back onto the
Alderbury defence.
The midfield of Gavin Birrel, Dolton Crompton, Owen
Trapnell and Kieron Reeves continued to battle,
with Dolton Crompton putting in his best
performance for the team so far with some good all
round play. It was due to this hard work that saw
Andover producing one of the best chances, coming
from an excellent Kieron Reeves header which seemed
to cross the line only for the referee to wave play
on.
The second half saw the team come together in a
determined effort to push forward, with constant
pressure from Dolton Crompton and Gavin Birrel
releasing the hard working James McArthur. However,
the defence of Alderbury was equal to these
attacks.
As both teams seamed to tire, Andover changed
formation, putting Michael Todd in to the heart of
midfield as Andover tried to push for the win. This
seemed to help the attacking formation, as in the
last few minutes an excellent through ball released
McArthur on the wide right to run towards goal and
release a shot that went just pass the Alderbury
keeper's post.
Overall, this was an all round excellent team
performance that took another step forward in
playing together as a team, with outstanding
performances from Michael Adams and Dolton
Crompton. The man of the match award went to Dolton
Crompton, but well played
everyone!

Littleton
1 Andover FC 'A' 5;Saturday 17th September
2005
The start of their Division 1 campaign Andover FC
pull out all the stops to produce an excellent win
over a strong Littleton outfit.
From the whistle, Andover passed the ball well,
creating several chances and were unlucky to find
themselves 1-0 down after a well drilled Littleton
move split the Andover defence. This proved to be a
learning curve and they were soon rewarded, when,
having played to the whistle, an unselfish McArthur
crossed the ball to Crompton who converted with
ease. Half time 1-1
The second half saw the team really gel and play
for each other. The movement and the passing
football Andover were producing was immense, with
Adams ever alert in goal and Weeks commanding his
hardworking defensive duo of Holman and Todd(J) in
awesome style. Andover's midfield dynamos of
Birrell, Todd(M), Crompton and Trapnell were able
to take charge in the centre of the park and began
to pile on the pressure. Littleton soon succumbed,
when great build up play saw a McArthur shot
ricochet off of both posts before trickling across
the goal line. Littleton still battled well and
made Andover work hard until a long defensive
clearance by Weeks was collected by the in form
McArthur, who rifled the ball home. This saw the
opposition's heads drop and Andover capitalised
with McArthur hitting his hatrick. With an
energetic Reeves chasing everything, it was only
down to some great goalkeeping that kept his name
off of the score sheet. Andover's fifth came from
another great Crompton strike. Full-time 1-5
This was an excellent display, with everyone giving
100% and at times the play was breathtaking,
pleasing for all concerned to see the lads playing
for each other. Overall, a fantastic team effort to
build on, that will make us a force to be reckoned
with as the season progresses. Well done lads we're
proud of you all.
Man of the Match went to James McArthur.
