PROFILE:

A widely experienced Process Engineer in refining, chemical manufacture and equipment design in the UK and Europe.    Specialist skills in adsorption technology and computing.   Able to work on own initiative and as part of a team.   First-class analytical, design and problem solving skills.   A working knowledge of several European languages.

SKILLS & ACHIEVEMENTS include:

  • Ability to apply chemical engineering techniques to a range of design applications, ranging from distillation equipment to adsorption processes.    Developed the Kaldair Vapour Recovery (KVR) process which led to a new £10 million business.

  • Successfully designed and commissioned over a dozen KVR units, several Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) hydrogen purification units and a PSA normal paraffin unit.

  • Ability to analyse and solve design problems, both conceptual and remedial, in one case saving company more than US $1,000,000 in potential damages claim.

  • Used computing skills to develop complex logic control of hydrogen PSA units, remote monitoring of KVR units, design programs and BP intranet web-site.

  • Successfully persuaded client to accept a two-stage solution to a processing problem, which could otherwise have led to his plant closure.

  • A record of achieving tasks on time throughout career, for example producing over 100 logic diagrams for process control within 3 weeks.

EXPERIENCE:

PROCESS ENGINEERING CONSULTANT  (2000-Present)

  • Provided process design (including control software) and commissioned Hydrogen PSA units worldwide.

  • Provided technical assistance and maintenance for European clients operating Kaldair Vapour Recovery units.

BP / BP AMOCO,  London     (1986-2000)

1998-2000:   Refining Technology Specialist - BP Amoco Oil, Sunbury-on -Thames

  • Providing operational support to BP Amoco refineries on Treatments (sulphur removal and recovery, crude oil and LPG treating)

  • Developed the Treatments web-site on the BP Intranet.

1988-98:   Snrior Consulting Engineer/Process Development Mgr, - Kaldair Ltd,* Langley, Berks

  • Developed the KVR process to comply with European environmental regulations, based on PSA and low-temperature condensation.

  • Developed computer control for KVR units, including operator-interface software and remote monitoring systems.

  • Provided process designs, control software and major input during engineering and commissioning phases of 15 KVR units sold to European clients.

  • Provided remote monitoring service and advice to clients operating KVR units.

  • Provided technical assistance to world-wide KVR sales and marketing groups.

  • Provided technical advice to business development group on adsorption processes:
air separation (oxygen), and gasoline vapour recovery.

* Previously a wholly-owned subsidiary of BP

1986-88:    Senior Process Engineer,  Licensing Support – BP Engineering, London

  • Provided process engineering support to BP Ventures, mainly in the areas of C4/C5 isomerisation and n-paraffin extraction (by Pressure Swing Adsorption).

  • Prepared FEED for n-paraffin extraction unit for BP Rotterdam.

  • Developed computer simulation tools for n-paraffin extraction adsorption process.

UNION CARBIDE BENELUX NV,  Antwerp, Belgium     (1970-85)

1979-85:   Engineering Associate, Adsorption Technology

  • Provided technical support to European business selling PSA (Pressure Swing Adsorption) units, principally for hydrogen purification in the chemical, petrochemical and refining industries.

  • Designed and commissioned PSA units in Europe and the Middle East.

  • Developed and commissioned computer control systems for PSA units.

  • Supervised technical sales support.

  • Developed computer software for PSA unit capital costs.

1974-79:   Engineering Supervisor, Distillation Trays
