Pidgeons of Kilmington

Kilmington is a small village about 1½ miles from Axminster, Devon, England.   John Pidgeon and Joan Cook came to Kilmington from Luppitt and Combe Raleigh, respectively.  But once they arrived in Kilmington, this Pidgeon family is known to have lived there between 1741 and 1838.

John Pidgeon, the son of John and Joan, was born there in 1741.  He married twice in Kilmington, first Elizabeth Ash, then after she died, Susannah French.  His five children were all baptised there.   Of these, little is known of the two daughters and one son John died in Kilmington, possibly unmarried.   Most of the descendants of the eldest son Willian remained in the Axminster area, with a few migrating as far as Dorset, Somerset and South Wales.  However, James, the younger son, moved to Bridport, Dorset and married Sarah Budden there and that is where this new family settled until further migration took them to London, the Isle of Wight (IoW) and places north.
