PIDGEONS of Kenton, Devon

Joseph Pidgeon married Sarah Elson in the village of Kenton (a few miles south of Exeter on the west bank of the Ex estuary).  While many of their descendants remained in the Kenton and Starcross area west of the Ex, some moved across the river to Exmouth (Littleham, Withycombe Raleigh), and others moved further east into Dorset.  Eventually, some moved on to London, Bristol and New Zealand.

Information concerning Joseph and Sarah's third son William has recently come to light.  After marrying Joan (or Jane, as she was known) Cribbet at Widecombe-in-the-Moor, they first lived in Exeter for a while before moving to Bristol.

Jasper Pidgeon was also married in Kenton, the year before Joseph was married, but his family settled in the nearby village of Powderham (see the Pidgeons of Powderham & Kenton).   Were Jasper and Joseph brothers?  At the moment we don't know where they came from nor whether they were related.

Main contributor:  Basil Pidgeon.  Additional contributions from Janet Rose, Roger Pidgeon, Janet Armstrong, Margaret Smith, Jonathan Pidgeon and Derek Gardner.

Notes:    ab. = about,  b. = born,  bp. = baptised,  bu. = buried,  d. = died,  m. = married,  + = extramarital relationship.

                Wit.Ral. = Wthicombe Raleigh
