John PIDGEON and Ann HODY were married in 1732 at Hawkchurch, Devon where two of their five children were baptised. But they went to live in Honiton and this is where all their grandchildren and great-grandchildren were born. Their youngest daughter Betty married William FILDEW in 1767 and, with 10 children, they founded the FILDEW family.
John Pidgeon was a cordwainer, or boot- and shoemaker. This trade was passed down to his grandson Samuel, then his sons and grandsons became tailors, carpentors and braziers. Many of them left Devon in the 19th century for London.
