Irish Pidgeons of Exmouth

William Pidgeon was born in County Clare, Ireland, but married Eliza Jane in County Kildare.  They settled there for a time, bringing up a young family, but emigrated to England in the late 1870s.  They first settled in Withycombe Raleigh in Exmouth, Devon, but later moved to Portsmouth and finally Plymouth.  Their youngest son was killed in action in the Boer War in South Africa.  Their two eldest sons are not to be found in the 1901 census, so were they, too, fighting in South Africa?
