Jasper Stanbury Pidgeon was the son of John Pidgeon of Powderham and Susan Stanbury of Brixham, Devon (see the Pidgeons of Powderham & Kenton family tree). It was at Brixham that John and Susan were married, and Jasper was born (in 1844). Jasper was a mariner. His wife, Selina Jones was born at Beer, Devon, bu they were married in London in 1865, before moving to Bristol where Jasper was an agent of the Bristol Steam Navigation Company. It was apparently at this time that Jasper shortened his name to Pidgen Sometime around 1876 Jasper and his family moved to Grimsby, Lincolnshire, and it is in this part of the country that most of his descendants remain today, with a few drifting south as far as Norfolk. Two of Jaspers sons married Wakefield sisters, whose mother had been a Webster (see the Websters of Grimsby family tree). It was this Webster connection which led one of the sisters to adopt her cousin Joseph Webster as a Pidgen. Additional contributions from Laura Pidgen and Cyril Webster Pidgen and family. Notes: ab. = about, b. = born, bp. = baptised, bu. = buried, d. = died, m. = married, (+) = extramarital relationship. Places in Italics = Registration District Pham = Powderham |
