Pidgeon DNA Project

The Pidgeon DNA project was started in August, 2007.  It needs as many male Pidgeons (or Pigeons or Pidgens) to have their Y-DNA tested and the results added to a database.  Its objective is to supplement the family tree information to determine how many? and which? of the many Pidgeon/Pidgen/Pigeon family trees are related and, as far as can be estimated, how closely are they related?  Historical records go back a few generations.  DNA records go back millions of years!

Why start a DNA project?

Further information about the project can be found on its web-site at http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Pidgeon/

Test results can be found at http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Pidgeon/default.aspx?section=yresults.  An ongoing discussion about the meaning of the results will be published from time to time, by email, in the Pidgeon Post (the Pidgeon family history newsletter).

New participants are required to join the project.  They should be MEN and have the surname of Pidgeon, Pigeon or Pidgen.  However, WOMEN can help by persuading their male Pidgeon relatives to join, or by contributing towards the cost of a test.  To find out whether it would be worthwhile joining the project - please contact me.
