Davie Fyfe

"Not a problem"
Not a problem when John asked me to write
This poem about Davie for our presentation night
But help ma boab, jings, crivens, crikey
Nothing seems to rhyme with Fyfie
___
Not a problem remembering the boys and their teams
Coached by Davie from kids right into their teens
There was Paddy, Gerry, DoDo, Big Alec and Magoo
Rowan, Adam, Anthony and Kenny to mention a few
___
Not a problem to think of the encouragement boys got
Whether the tackle or pass was that good or not
For Davie the fun wasn't necessarily in winning
It was boys having fun from the very beginning
___
Not a problem when our meetings were held in the pub
Davie skipped the beers for a big plate of grub
Games, fund raising, tactics we could talk plenty
And Davie made sure glasses were never empty
___
Not a problem for Davie at the swimming pools
Attacked by the team, those silly fools
"Let's get Fyfie" said the boys "under the watter"
The big man just laughed at that kind of patter
___
Not a problem on trips and tournaments held abroad
First name on the team sheet was our big PC Plod
Up first in the morning and last in bed at night
Davie was great at making trips just right
___
Not a problem if our fiercest rivals visit, Seedhill,
John's shouts give us shivers just like a chill
But not Davie, he didn't make a noise
Except to applaud the skills of both sets of boys
___
And it's not a problem going on
We've still got Alistair, Eddie, Tom, John
And two punters who are quite new
Big welcome to the new guys Mario and Hugh
___
Not a problem for us all at East End
To recall with pride our everlasting friend
And be grateful we shared in the life
Of the one and only "BIG DAVIE FYFE"
