This section
focusses on the fundamentals of homeopathy and its application
in curing deep seated and chronic diseases. It should be
obvious though after further study, that the fundamentals
of homeopathy have roots that go deep into all aspects of
healing and so this approach once mastered, is preferable
also in addressing acute states.
The previous
sections: i.e.
'PATIENT'S
INFO', 'FAQ'S' and
'AILMENTS' pages with the 'FIRST
AID', 'COMMON DISEASES', and 'TIMES
OF LIFE' sections could be considered an introductory
look at homeopathy and concerned in the main with acute
conditions.
You may already
have heard of the terms 'constitutional', 'classical', 'totality'
'simillimum' or 'Hahnemannian' prescribing; these refer
to an approach which involves finding out enough about someone
and the ailments they suffer from to find one single remedy
that covers the whole case. As two people may have different
subjective symptoms despite the same diagnosis, rather than
thinking of a specific remedy for a named condition and
different remedies for combinations of conditions, think
of a single remedy for the sum total ('Totality')
of a person's individual symptoms and their characteristics. This
is a very different, all inclusive way of looking at health,
disease and medicine.
The patient may have several
complaints that they do not see as being related, but from
a homeopaths perspective every symptom, both emotional and
physical, no matter how obscure or where it's located, is
part of the person's expression of disease. The homeopath
will be looking for a coherence that covers all the symptoms
in one single remedy. Impossible? To get an idea how this
works look at some of the materia medica like nux-vom, sepia,
lachesis, nat-m, sulphur, pulsatilla etc. and you will see
patterns, and even start to think of people you know that
might fit the pictures.
Amongst the
most respected homeopaths are those who have the greatest
knowledge of materia medica and the highest percentage
of success from single remedy 'totality' prescribing,
as expounded by Hahnemann. Whilst one may be familiar
with many techniques, and though the use of esoteric or
speculative prescribing strategies may have its appeal,
no genuine homeopath would lack expertise in Hahnemann's
method.
To quote Hahnemann:
The unprejudiced observer - well aware of
the futility of transcendental speculations which can receive
no confirmation from experience - be his powers of penetration
ever so great, takes note of nothing in every individual
disease, except the changes in the health of the body and
of the mind (morbid phenomena, accidents, symptoms) which
can be perceived externally by means of the senses; that
is to say, he notices only the deviations from the former
healthy state of the now diseased individual, which are
felt by the patient himself, remarked by those around him
and observed by the physician. All these perceptible signs
represent the disease in its whole extent, that is, together
they form the true and only conceivable portrait of the
disease.'
By finding one remedy that
suits the patient in as many respects as possible the deepest
and surest cures are achieved, and the greatest sense of
well being is recovered. The single dose, single remedy
may not be found for every patient though, it may be that
other extenuating factors preclude this method being suitable
for them (e.g. they are already on other medications), that
doesn't mean that homeopathy can't help but that different
methodologies may be used and these will be decribed in
the FURTHER STUDY section
