MODALITIES
OF REMEDIES IN HOMEOPATHY
Modalities
are one of the most
important aspects for choosing a remedy.
They are essential criterion that enables us to decide between
remedies.
Modalities
are the modifying and qualifying factors
of a remedy,
i.e. what makes someone's symptoms:
Better
or ameliorated from (using the symbol " >
" or abbreviation 'amel')
OR
Worse or aggravated from (using the symbol "
< " or abbreviation
'agg.')
May apply to
weather, movement, activity, time etc.
inc.
- sides and nature and frequency of symptoms;
- colour and consistency of discharges,
- the patient's sensations, mood, condition;
- plus desires and aversions, to foods, thirst, etc
Modalities
are used whether for an acute or a chronic case.
From the moment you learn the first remedy, you learn its
modalities. A good knowledge of remedies will help in deciding
which questions to ask and what signs to look for if the
patient doesn't provide enough modalities automatically.
When you read
the materia medica pay special attention to the the modalities
as they are often what differentiates between the remedies
that are close contenders for prescription
