SELF-TREATMENT
in HOMEOPATHY
A homeopathic
remedy will only cure when it is in fact homeopathic, and
it will only be homeopathic when it completely matches all
the symptoms in their every aspect as expressed by the individual
patient - this is why homeopathy can never be prescribed
on a diagnosis because symptoms will rarely be identical
even under the same diagnosis. The importance of this point
- individualisation - cannot be emphasised enough for successful
homeopathy.
Self
treatment..
You may decide to treat yourself for those conditions where
you would normally use OTC remedies, i.e. non prescription
medicines. Homeopathic
remedies are available from supermarkets, health shops and
pharmacies and usually come in dry pill form. When treating
yourself for first aid and other minor ailments there some
important guidelines to be followed:
A remedy on the shelf
in a shop isn't homeopathic (it is simply a potentised substance)
A remedy is not homeopathic until it is
applied
homeopathically. (labelled 'conditions'
on the bottle are a very hit and miss guide)
It is the way
it is applied that makes it homeopathic, not its name or
potency.
Don't 'mix
and match' remedies; they can antidote each other and taking
lots of different remedies together in the hope that one
will help will only confuse the issue. Choose carefully
one remedy at a time. When in doubt seek help.
Treatment
by a homeopath..
For any condition other than First Aid or minor ailments
you should consult a homeopath, who will give a prescription
at the end of a full
consultation, after
careful repertorising,
based on the whole of your case. This
will often be one single dose
of one remedy in a high potency.
This
method known as
constitutional homeopathy,
is a much more deep acting method of using
homeopathy which can resolve difficult health problems
and requires skill. Symptoms
which change after a constitutional
remedy should not be self prescribed for,
it will interfere with your remedy and healing process if
you do; so don't self prescribe if you are undergoing
treatment from a homeopath (speak to your homeopath)
Treatment
by other health professionals using homeopathy..
Sometimes Doctors, midwives, nurses, naturopaths and others
may recommend homeopathic remedies. These may be appropriate
to the immediate circumstances (e.g. childbirth) but long
term or deep seated conditions should always receive constitutional
homeopathic treatment. This is the only way to be sure it
is more than palliation,
is effective in the long term, avoids
suppression and
ensures healing is in the 'direction of cure' (DOC)
For constitutional treatment ask what
level of training your
provider has and which organisation they are registered
with. |
