The remedy Red Chestnut belongs
to Bach's group For Those who Have Fear, together with the remedies
of Rock Rose, Mimulus, Cherry Plum, and Aspen. Specifically, Red
Chestnut treats fear for the welfare of others.
In the Red Chestnut state,
the mind reaches out to a loved one, who is usually not within
one's reach or within one's power to be helped, and one worries
fearfully about the other's welfare. The idea that someone loved
and cherished whom one enjoys caring for is out of reach, unassisted
and threatened, undermines one's strength and nerve power. One
wants to help yet cannot, and the nervous energy finds no outlet,
simply "eating" away at one's reserves.
An active imagination, anticipation of something dreadful, plus
loss of faith in the benevolence of the other's destiny compound
the problem and may propel the mind to irrational heights of anxiety.
In this state, one cannot let go; although physical distance,
old age, sickness, or dangers have severed the safety of the love
bond, one's mind and heart are still with the other who is most
precious and unbearable to lose.
Usually, grief and worry surround
the Red Chestnut state; the trauma of grief may account for the
sense of danger; the loss of safe vicinity and togetherness may
explain the fears for the other's life and limb, any separation
resembling death.
Feelings of helplessness and self-blame for inability to assist
may further weaken emotional stability.
To release others to their
destiny with faith. To balance fear, irrational worry, and exaggerated
imagination with trust and reasonable insight. To give stamina
and increase nerve power.
