ROCK WATER- BACH

This remedy belongs to Bach's group Overcare for Welfare of Others, along with the remedies of Beech, Vine, Vervain, and Chicory. These remedies heal the tendency to overly influence and control others. Specifically, Rock Water heals the urge to inspire others with one's example of self-mastery.

The Rock Water state comes about from having chosen a special path of personal advancement and self-discipline and adhering strictly to its rules. Though difficult at times and usually involving denial of pleasurable pursuits, this regiment instills personal pride and one feels inspired to teach others the way of perfection. The perceptual mistake is made in regard to each person's individual way of growth and self-determination in terms of choosing a particular path or simply choosing to flow through life, without regiments and denial of pleasure. One needs to recognize that one's own ways of advancement are not necessarily suited to the needs of others and may even be detrimental to oneself and others.
A differentiation needs to be made between the self-chosen path of denial and an imposed Rock Water state, propelled by circumstance and not wished for. The self-chosen path usually involves a spiritual quest, coupled with a health regiment for mind and body, which can actually undermine the very goals of spiritual awakening, those being based on release from self-preoccupation and kindling of joy on all levels of being. The imposed Rock Water state, entailing a sacrifice or loss of pleasure, actually grows out of an initial state of disappointment, severity, or despair. Yet, one rises to the occasion, controls oneself and finds incentive in living without the usual ease or enjoyment. Out of this self-control and mastery of a difficult readjustment comes personal pride and the desire to inspire others to be equally strong.
Here again, though aspirations are worthwhile, one needs to take into consideration the other's individual way of growth and actually take an inventory of all possible avenues of finding joy, before the path of self-denial is consciously entered. This step is of importance to all seeking healing from the Rock Water dilemma. In addition, life's circumstances may change and offer new opportunities for satisfaction and personal fulfillment. The Rock Water mentality tends to adhere to routines and one-sided acceptance of limitations when life has moved on to new challenges. The mind overly focuses on the limitations, battles them repeatedly with willpower until one feels in charge again, instead of releasing the burdens and putting mental emphasis elsewhere.
In the rehabilitation of addictive drug use or addictive behavioral patterns, to name one example, a Rock Water state is likely to come on, as one consciously chooses the path of self-denial and self-improvement and battles the newly emerging urge of engaging in the habitual pattern. Here, sheer physical need makes this a battle of self-control, and a Rock Water state is almost unavoidable, if only temporarily.
Any time, self-martyrdom and unnecessary heroism in regard to suppression of one's gratification and desire are exhibited, Rock Water is indicated, especially so if there is additional incentive to convert others. Within this dynamic, one can also observe ritualistic, perfection-oriented, obsessive-compulsive, and self-punitive behavior (cf. Cherry Plum, Crab Apple, Pine, Vervain).

In the freely chosen Rock Water state, as one suppresses desires considered unwholesome, one may block off important parts of the personality and stifle vital avenues of joy. These overriding states of willpower, rigidity, and self-centered toughness may create underlying emotions of frustration, sadness, depression, or anger. These "warning signals" are usually suppressed further and not permitted to deter one's self from the chosen path. A hardening of the inner personality occurs; life's ease and balanced flow is stopped, and, oftentimes, others are supposed to participate in this regiment. The idea of "misery seeks company" could apply as additional underlying motive to some cases, although the converter sees his own efforts and inspirations as only worthwhile and benefiting the other. This state of self-deception further deters from unraveling in self-analysis this self-undermining dynamic of unnecessary denial, harshness, personal pride in having achieved self-mastery, and the urge to convert others.
In the imposed Rock Water state, the emotions of sadness, depression, frustration are permitted into consciousness, yet have to be battled to some extent so as not to be too overwhelming and forceful. Simultaneously, the suppression itself of vital needs and desires takes its toll, as self-mastery, resolve, and willpower are necessary to find a balance. Rock Water will help defray the intensity of the inner conflict, lessen the severity of the loss, while reducing preoccupation and the necessity of intensified willpower and allowing for gentleness and spontaneity to flow from the inner self.

To allow for gentleness toward oneself to emerge. To see perfection and self-mastery as obtainable within interpersonal relations, as one endeavors to bring true kindness to all, rather than preoccupying with personal perfectionism and denial which do not really benefit others and oneself.
