OLIVE - BACH

The remedy Olive, together with the remedies of Clematis, Honeysuckle, Wild Rose, White Chestnut, Mustard, and Chestnut Bud, belongs to the group of Lack of Interest in Present Circumstances, as classified by Bach. Specifically, Olive treats states of exhaustion in mind/emotions, body, and spirit.

In the Olive state, the mind is too weary to carry on, and one knows that a certain limit has been reached and reserves are depleting. It is a state of exhaustion reaching deep into the self, undermining the very spirit or inner core of existence.
As one tries to struggle on with life's duties, may they be mainly in the mental, emotional, or physical realm, one realizes that they grow above one's head and are hardly within one's power to accomplish. One begins a certain task and cannot complete it; the urge to slow down and rest is simply too strong. Consequently, one may appear absent-minded, disinterested, or lethargic.
In the field of social service, as burn-out syndrome develops, during or after prolonged sickness, during any demanding times asking for extra effort, Olive comes to the rescue, bringing the healing spark to carry on.

In the Olive state, emotional life is weary as well. One is unable, as in burn-out syndrome, to care as much about others as one used to. One cannot get worked up or excited over people and issues which previously gave incentive and joy. Due to having depleted inner reserves, one now finds oneself retreating to an inner core, harboring strength and trying to protect those remaining powers necessary to get through the day.
Sadness, depression, discouragement, a sense of meaninglessness, and apathy may accompany the exhaustion. The inner spiritual core may falter in faith and be devoid of seeing purpose and beauty in life.

To revitalize the person as a whole, recharge one's reserves, give new incentive to engage in life.
