The remedy Cerato, along with
Scleranthus, Gentian, Gorse, Hornbeam, and Wild Oat, belongs to
Bach's group of For Those who Suffer Uncertainty. Cerato has the
indication of uncertainty of self in regard to formulating judgments
and decisions and in regard to personal self-expression.
In the Cerato state, the mind is lacking the connection to inner
wisdom and intuitive guidance. The perceptive power of the mind
is not supported by inner certainty and truthful interpretation
from deep within. Consequently, there is continued doubting, uncertainty,
and lack of personal decisiveness and self-assurance.
Since inner guidance has not been tapped into, persons in the
Cerato state rely heavily on the advice of others, often admiring
their decisive move through life and feeling less adequate themselves.
They are overly impressed with outward shows and trends, people
in charge of themselves and the situation, while they feel hampered
in regard to their own creative self-expression, often blaming
themselves for this uncomfortable lot.
Internal social agony, preoccupation with oneself, hampering self-observation
and shyness are common (cf. Mimulus, Larch). In extreme cases,
there may be speech problems and other distortions of expression
of personality, fixed ideas, irrational anxieties, inappropriate
laughing, and immature behavior.
Indecisiveness and uncertainty, while hampering one's social and
personal expression, may also extend to all concrete situations
of life where decisions are called for. There is mistrust in one's
capacity to judge correctly and make the appropriate decision.
One feels that oneself and others cannot rely fully on one's inner
state of wavering and uncertainty.
Cerato is indicated in speech problems arising from inner uncertainty;
it is also of service during language development when inner certainty
and dynamic of word use need to be improved. Furthermore, it could
assist in developmental disorders by helping the mind gain certainty
and enhancing learning potential (cf. Chestnut Bud).
In mental illness, this remedy can be of service in gender identity
disorders, anxiety disorders, delusions, elimination disorders,
and sexual disorders (cf. Cherry Plum, especially for the last
two), or whenever there is an underlying dynamic of uncertainty
of consciousness expression. In avoidance personality disorder,
Cerato can successfully treat the timid reliance on the favorable
evaluation by others and help overcome avoidance of social situations
(cf. Mimulus). In dependent personality disorder, Cerato addresses
the excessive dependence on the approval and advice of others
(cf. Centaury). In regard to anxiety disorders and delusions,
Cerato can help those lost in their own reality so that new certainty
can grow in their remaining healthful aspects and the wrongly
based certainty of their illusions and imaginings fade.
Consequently, the person in
the Cerato state has to balance a continued array of emotions.
There is lack of self-esteem and easily stimulated feelings of
inferiority. One is impressed by the others' decisive demeanor,
wants to measure up, wishes for recognition and approval by others.
Unfortunately, others often sense the person's discomfort and
may turn away in disregard, increasing the person's uncertainty.
Uncertainty and frequent feelings of inferiority undermine one's
enjoyment of life, and one may feel trampled by the force of others.
Usually, however, one attributes the fault for one's distress
to oneself; one feels caught within one's own stifled and hampered
expression of personality.
Oftentimes, in the Cerato state, there develops a deep longing
for truth, personal clarity, and independence. One knows what
is missing yet does not understand how to reach this special elixir
of life. For many, the way of service and love, of tuning into
others rather than preoccupying with oneself and being in the
way of oneself, is the road to healing.
To transform excessive and
hampering self-consciousness into healthy tuning into others and
objective problem- centering. To increase intuition, truth perception,
self-assurance, and trust in one's judgment.
