Jesus
College Roadshow |
Jesus College, Oxford own a lot of land around Bracebridge Heath and Canwick. They invited residents to attend a presentation, in which they laid out their objections to the LCC proposed route of the Bypass and their proposed alternative. Almost 100 people attended the meeting in the Parish Hall on Thursday night. The Jesus College delegation was led by Mr Robin Laugh, the Jesus College land agent. He was accompanied by Mr Ian Stuart, a planner with County Council experience and Mr Paul Croft, a local public relations consultant. Jesus College stated that they were proposing their alternative route, not to cash in on land sales, but to empower a strategic vision of future development that would be of benefit to everyone. Indeed, they stated that if the land sale necessary for the Bypass was perceived as a 'windfall', the College was prepared to contribute substantially towards an agreed route. They further stated that they had no immediate plans for the development of any of their land. An approach for an 'option' on the land north of Cathedral View, on the other side of Canwick Ave, had been refused by the College. The College's proposal is based on the ''Pylon Line' south of Lincoln and approaches within 600m of the Cathedral View estate. It is a wider divergence from the LCC route than the CVBAG proposal. The well received meeting concluded with questions from the audience. Mr Laugh wound things up by calling for a show of hands to indicate whether the local residents felt that the College was proceeding on the right course. The response was unanimous.
