We normally have 18 hamsters on board here,We have been breeding syrians for 5-6 years.
We do NOT do either inbreeding or
line breeding. And when I say that hamsters are really family here, that's
true. A detailed genetic record is
kept of all our hamsters. And because all of our once-separate lines going
back to the mid-1990s have been basically merged into one family, we
obviously need "new blood" sometimes.When I take babies born
here to the pet store, I also supply certified birth certificates with the
CCHS logo on them. These give the names of the parents, grandparents,
great-grandparents, etc. of the young hams (sort of like a pedigree). The
birth certificates also have printed on the reverse side some very basic
instructions on hamster care and the names of some local veterinary clinics
that treat hamsters (all of those listed are ones I have used and found
satisfactory).

association, the Chevy Chase Hamster Society (CCHS), which consists of
myself and a few other hamster-lovers in the area, as well as others from
hamster lists who have joined (you do that by downloading a membership card
