Match Report

At least we got home in time to watch the Twenty20

Result: All out for 84 having been put in to bat on the greenest pitch ever. The bowlers worked hard to make the 5 wickets defeat look a bit more respectable than it might have been.

Bowling: It was never going to be any easy defending 82 although the bowlers did a good job of making the result look a bit more respectable and were unlucky not to get a couple more wickets. The short boundaries round one side of the pitch meant the few bad balls were put away for four but it would definitely have been a very close game if the bowlers had been given another 30 runs to play with. Danny put in a particularly fine performance for his 4 wickets seen as he hadn't played for Trafalgar or any other 'proper' cricket for a couple of years.

Fielding: As the opposition reached their target in just under 15 overs there weren't too many opportunities for fielding heroics or mistakes although there were a couple of misses which might have at least prolonged the inevitable. There was at least one missed opportunity of a run out as well.

Batting: Carried on from where it had left off in the last game. Although to be fair we had a significantly different team and the pitch was virtually completely grass which meant there was a fair bit of movement and variable bounce. Andrew and Joe were the only people who managed to get in and look like they might get a decent score but the lack of any decent partnership in the innings was the main reason for the low total.

Shot of the day: Andrew's cut for 6 over the short boundary was certainly not the sort of shot you usually see in a Trafalgar innings let alone one of his innings. James' attempt at 'The Dilshan' (assuming that's what it was) would have won this award if he had actually hit the ball rather than let it hit him the chest.

Excuse of the day: Chris saying that we lost because Andrew got out on 23 when he was playing well. Surely the fact that Joe was the only other person to out-score the Extras was of significance when it came to working out why we lost.

Sharrem Shenanigans: Attempting to get changed in the store cupboard underneath the pavilion was followed by several overs of classic Rhys chirping from behind the stumps including congratulating the bowler after bowling a wide and using a different adjective to describe each delivery for a couple of overs until he ran out of words.
