Early season stuff

Result: Lost by 47 runs. Allowing for the fact we gave away 47 extras it could have been very close.

Bowling: Not too bad for the first game of the season and it wasn't helped by playing on a pitch on a slope with the strip the lowest down the slope with a short boundary down the hill. Joe started the season with an excellent 2 for 26 off his 8 overs and Chris as he would say 'rolled back the years' for 2 for 29 off of 7 overs.

Fielding: Not bad. A few early season miss-fields but all the straightforward catches were taken and the two of three drops were very difficult chances that would not have been caught 9 times out of 10 anyway.

Batting: Pretty good on the whole with Harry and Joe getting 47 and 42 not out and Ken getting 50 not out on debut. Chris looked fairly comfortable at the start in a 53 opening stand with Harry and Paul got off to a positive start to the season coming in at four to get 19.

Shot of the day: Joe and Ken hit some fantastic boundaries towards the end of the innings to ramp up the score. The best one was probably Ken pulling one of their opening bowlers for six.

Excuse of the day: This goes to the Council guy who decided that because we didn't turn up at 12 (having booked the pitch for 2:00) he thought we weren't coming so let other people use our pitch.

Sharrem Shenanigans: Having had absolutely no practice with the gloves at nets we were all very concerned about Rhys' first game behind the stumps this season. However he actually did pretty well considering how wide some of the bowling was and that the pitch was on a slope. He also stumped their top scorer who was probably eyeing three figures.
