Match One: Bright(ish) Beginnings

Our first match ended in a thorough defeat but Norton Sports were far superior to us and far more experience, they said themselves that it took 2 years to win their first game. We agreed to bowl first and the start was inauspicious Chris and particularly myself bowling some absolute garbage. It took the consistency of the hand and John Wig to bring things under control. It was Michael who finally claimed our first wicket with an unplayable full toss. Other points of note were Daniels impressive spin bowling and highly erratic fielding. Where he held one catch, got a ridiculous run out and dropped a further two. I also took a neat catch, which didn't make up for the abject buffet I served up.

As soon as Ken went to a platinum duck from that funny kind of non-movement, prod defensive he sometimes plays I knew we were in trouble. Edger attempted to steady the ship by thrashing at every ball and he departed soon enough. Chris was run out when looking in good touch and Harry smashed a very fine 25. Towards the end of the innings Michael and myself made double figures to gain some respect in the score. The only other point of note was the Hand trying to late cut a yorker.

In fairness this was an impressive first outing the fielding was attentive and the bowlers worked hard, the batting will always be the problem but if people work hard this will get better.
