FAQ

I appreciate that buying any guitar, customised or not, involves choices, decisions and careful consideration. However, one thing I always try to ensure is that your options are never fuelled by compromise! Only using only the finest quality components ensures that the originality of an instrument never takes precedence over its musicality and playability. I hope the following Frequently Asked Questions will help you in selecting your instrument and in choosing Ash Custom Axes to deliver that quality to you at an affordable price.

1 What kind of wood are the bodies that you use for your guitars?

I usually use agathis or alder, and occassionally basswood, depending on how heavy the guitar is going to be. Different wood give a different sustain and tone.

2 Do you spray your own guitar bodies?

Yes, I can spray them myself and can have paint colours made up professionally if I want to achieve a specific colour which isn't one of the run-of-the-mill colours.

3 What is your returns policy?
Guitars can be returned within 7 days of receipt, (if bought off Ebay this is extended to 14 days) so long as they are returned undamaged and the buyer pays return postage

4 How long have you been customising guitars, and can you build one to my own requirements?

I have been customising guitars for a long time. I can build you a guitar to whatever specifications you require and I’m always happy to help and advise with this process!

5 What kind of machine heads do you use on your guitars?

I use all different kinds of machine heads depending on what the customer wants, eg Schaller-type, Grover, and Vintage.

6 How long would it take for a guitar to be shipped to me?

I use a courier that can usually deliver within 48hours

7 How long would it take you to build a guitar for me?

It depends on how long it takes me to find the parts you require and to build the guitar. On average, probably 2 weeks for fairly standard guitars.

8 What kind of guitars do you usually build and customise?

I usually like to work with stratocasters or telecasters, but I also work with Les Pauls and bass guitars.

9 If I wanted my own guitar to be set up, or re-strung, could you do this for me?

Yes, I could re-string your guitar, set it up so that the intonation is great and the action is to your requirements.

10 what kind of pick-up configuration can you put on guitars?

Any, anything that you want!

11 Do you repair guitars?

That depends on what the problem is. Contact me and I'll see what I can do, and if it is something I cannot repair myself I may have a contact for someone who can help you.

12 Generally, what do you charge to build a customised guitar?

Most of the guitars I sell on my website and on Ebay are between £80 and £200 but these are not made to individual requirements. To have one made specially for you would probably cost from £120 upwards, but this very much depends on what you want and how easy it is to get the parts. I don’t charge anything for a quote so drop me an e-mail or give me a ring and lets see what can be sorted out. I’ll be happy to give you a no-obligation quote.

13 what would be the post and packing charge to send a guitar to me in the Uk?

I use either UPS or DHL so that the guitars I post can be tracked and the insurance is included in the costs. Usually the cost is £13.50. All the guitars are bubble wrapped and packed very well in guitar boxes to protect them. If you are in Northern or Southern Ireland, or in the Highlands of Scotland it would cost more to post a guitar to you.

I am willing to post to Europe and the EU but please contact me for a quote. To France, Germany and Spain it usually costs around £25.
