Weave poles recipe
You will need: string, bricks/pegs, tape measure, rawl plugs, hammer, plant canes, 22mm plastic piping, pieces of wood
Step 1 1. Lay some string where you want the middle of your weave poles to be. Secure it at both ends
Step 2 2. Bang a rawl plug into the ground under the string, level with where you want the first pole. Use yellow, red or white rawl plugs - these are easier to find amongst the grass when you want to move the poles!
Step 3 3. Measure 20 inches along the string and bang in a second rawl plug. Continue this for the number of poles you have. (12 is the maximum in competitions)
Step 4 4. Lay two pieces of wood each side of the string.
Step 5 5. Angle the wood relative to the string and support with bricks or pegs. Here I am angling the poles in at the end. The last pole is to be 3½ inches from the string, while the 5th pole (from the start) is to be 9 inches from the string. Align the other piece of wood in the same way, making sure the end is level with the first piece of wood so that they are at the same angle.
Step 6 6. Bang in a garden cane (these here are metal coated in plastic) level with the rawl plug and against the piece of wood.
Step 7 7. Slot the plastic pipe over the garden cane.
Step 8 8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 for the other poles, alternating the poles each side of the string. Remove the wood and string. (Don't worry about the washing line Lady is very good at avoiding that.)
Lady weave Lady, running through the poles. You will need to move the poles towards the rawl plugs very gradually. On the right is a chair which prevents Lady from running out before that pole.
