This site is dedicated to the study and translation of the classical Tamil language of the Sangam era, including the somewhat later epics poems, Manimegalai, Cilapadikaram and Jivaga Cintamani. The ultimate intention is to develop the site as a tool for learning the classical language, as well as for enjoying its literature in translation.
The translations posted here were made over a number of years when my knowledge of the language was being developed. They are currently being checked and amended in preparation for the publication of the full work in two volumes, with extensive notes, and the original Tamil text with a literal translation for either the whole or part of each verse.
The books will be self-published using one of the Internet publishing sites. If there is any interest, I hope subsequently to make it available through the commercial channels. The correction process for the first 65 verses will be completed shortly, followed over the coming months by the remainder of the first 200, at which point the remaining unposted verses in the first 200 (141 - 200) will be posted.
An announcement will appear on the site when the publication is imminent.
