The Sony SL-F30
is one of the thinnest Betamax machines - only about twice as thick as the
tape that goes in. A clear window on top of the machine allows the tape to
be seen when loaded inside. It also has electronic search and store
tuning (12 presets), a multi-event timer and quick record timer. All the
controls apart from the tuning setup are located on the front of the machine.
There are no flimsy plastic panels or hidden timer buttons. It's well-designed
and easy to use.
The Sony SL-F25UB was the last Betamax model made for the British
market in 1986. Afterwards, only SuperBeta equipment was sold for a few more
years. My SL-F25 was made in Spain - all the other Sony Betamaxes were made
in Japan. This is a basic model and definitely of cheaper construction -
the chassis is made of plastic instead of metal. Despite that, it still works
well.
These pictures were taken from the Betamax PALsite - well worth a visit!
