This is the guy who did my eagle tattoo.
John Hyland is an Irish-Canadian tattoo artist known as Pluto to his clients and friends. Why? Everyone who got to know him used to say he's so weird and crazy that he must be from another planet !
Pluto was not always a tattoo artist. He used to work as a pizza chef. Pluto first tattooed himself after a relationship with a lady broke up, and he said it changed his life. Since then, he has acquired several more tattoos of his own, stating that he'd like to be fully covered eventually. "Tattoos are addictive!", he warned.
Everyone asks me that, because I live in England and he's in Canada. "It's a long way to go to get a tattoo! Was there a special reason?" Well it was partly because I was there, staying with some of my family relatives. I didn't really know Pluto beforehand, but I knew that his shop had been around for several years. If it was really bad, I figured it wouldn't have survived that long. I looked at some samples of his work. It was good, but then some more things caught my eye.
The cleanliness of the shop - with its separate surgery area - was immediately apparent. I'm afraid to say it put some British shops to shame. Pluto's sign stated that getting a good quality tattoo is more important than saving a few dollars. I noticed Pluto himself was not covered in bad quality "scratcher" tattoos, unlike so many other tattooists. He knew as well as I did that tattoos - good or bad - are there for life. Pluto's prices were certainly not the cheapest I'd seen, but on this occasion I decided not to play the cheapskate and chose QUALITY.
In fact, No ! I have no connection with Pluto other than being a satisfied customer. He certainly didn't pay for this page. I just put this here to explain to people like you the reasons why I chose him. My advice is to check out more than one shop before getting a tattoo, and choose the shop with as much care as the design you want.
