This is my largest and most ambitious tattoo to date; an oriental dragon wrapped around a surfboard incorporating a yin-yang symbol. This tattoo took about 5 hours to complete. I copied the design from a souvenir T-shirt that I bought in a flea-market in Los Angeles, California in December 2000. I chose my own colours for the tattoo, since I wanted one with bright, contrasting colours. The green and orange colour scheme works well for the dragon. The brown and purple surfboard contrasts with the dragon's body and claws.
As you can see, the tattoo is quite large and covers my upper left arm,
almost

from shoulder to
elbow. Some T-shirts hide the tattoo completely but other T-shirts with shorter
sleeves don't fully cover it and a bit of the tattoo sticks out, remaining
visible all the time. At first I was a bit concerned about allowing
this to happen. I was afraid of what people might say. However, my fears
have so far been unfounded. People are actually curious; they see a bit of
my tattoo poking out of my shirt, then they come up to me and pull up my
sleeve to see the whole design underneath. I love it when that happens! I
like seeing their reaction - surprise, shock, or just ' Cool ! '. I'm always
pleased to show my tattoos to other people, to talk about them and to meet
other tattoo enthusiasts.
