Received an email from our good friend Charles in Arkansas with a link to a beer cake recipe and he knows us too well.
It was 1 am Wednesday morning, I wasn't sleepy and I had a can of beer handy, Guinness in this case but not all the ingredients but just enough to improvise with a very basic recipe the kids use.
This is the story so far . . . .
4oz of margarine (no butter available)
4oz of sugar (no caster sugar available)
4oz of flour (self-raising)
2 eggs
I can Guinness
Mix it all together and bake for 20 to 25 minutes
Now I was surprised, I'm not known for my kitchen ability when it comes to cakes, but the smell whilst baking was lovely and the end result although they hadn't risen much (it was bloody early in the morning) I was very pleased indeed

I had to add something to the top and a bar of dark chocolate was available.
