THE SUNBURY AND SHEPPERTON
LOCAL HISTORY SOCIETY

The Society was founded in 1951 to foster interest
in local history, particularly of our own area, namely Shepperton, Sunbury,
Charlton, Littleton, and Halliford, both upper and lower. Members are
encouraged to research the past and also to record the present for the benefit
of future generations. Short articles of research are published in the
Society's twice-yearly Journal (free to members). Longer pieces of research are
published in book form: at present there are more than 20 publications. The
Society has some 150 members, most living locally.
Current annual subscriptions are
Individual £6.00
Family £10.00
Student £2.00
About 70 people attend
monthly meetings held from September to May. Meetings are held mainly in The
John Crook Theatre, Halliford School Russell Road Shepperton, although the
September meeting is held at an alternative venue in Sunbury. At these meetings
there are speakers on general topics of local history. There are also summer
activities. Not all members want to be involved in research, they join to
attend the talks and take part in the occasional outings. A large part of the
Society's archive consists of old photographs. Some are exhibited at local
events. The Society welcomes inquiries, e-mail me (including your postal
address) and I will pass on your enquiry to the right person.
