Pelican based upon a 14th century wooden choirstall misericord

Traditionally a bird of love. The pelican's unruly offspring struck her in the face and in a fit of anger she retaliated unfortunately killing them. After three days she opened her own breast and side pouring blood over the dead bodies and her love brought them back to life.   Wood engraving. The print is 9.5cmx7cm. It has two colours in the reduction method and the edition of 10 uses various papers. The block is boxwood and printed with Lawrence's linseed oil inks.
