My Food Adventures"Causes for heart attack resolved"Some 40 years ago Dr Bruker wrote an essay under this title which got published in a German medical journal. Soon afterwards he received a letter from the legal advisers of the sugar industry threatening to sue him. True to form, Dr Bruker invited the lawyers to do exactly that because he had long been waiting for such a formidable chance of publicising the enormous dangers of the consumption of factory sugar! They didn't sue him but resorted to ridiculing Dr Bruker and his work ever since. And what are the main causes of heart attack? Refined carbohydrates. T L Cleave says so in his book "The Saccharine Disease" as well. The book is long out of print but you can read the respective chapter online. Dr John Yudkin's research also underpins this, and his book "Sweet and dangerous" is out of print too. (Occasionally second-hand copies pop up on sites such as ebay.) According to Dr Bruker, the usually quoted "risk factors" (smoking, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, stress etc etc) are often already symptoms of a disease and thus not a "cause" for heart attack, and none of them is by itself sufficient to cause a heart attack without the previous longterm consumption of factory sugar and factory flour and products containing them. Cutting out factory sugar can be hard work because the stuff is addictive. I found my way of cutting sugar from my diet quite by "accident" (Kübler-Ross called this sort of thing "divine manipulation") – see Losing weight.
