World Unlimited is sending out a call for young West
Midland based musicians who wish to further develop their workshop practice
in a workshop series 'Roots To Fruit' commencing
in early spring 2010. ‘Roots to Fruit’ is a programme of
participatory workshops exploring how music shares and celebrates culture,
diversity and tradition. The workshop series will create opportunities for collaboration
between musicians and also opportunities for diverse communities from the Master musician Kudaushe Matimba from Each public workshop will combine two distinct cultures. The project will deliver workshops for local communities in
the Each section of the project will involve a one to one session
between Kudashe and a musican, followed by the delivery of a workshop to the
public. Musicians working with Kudaushe will gain professional
development and the guidance of an experienced musician as they focus on
workshop practice together and deliver a workshop to the public exploring the
differing cultures. . The two distinct genres of music represented in each session
will also enable opportunities for collaboration between Kudaushe and the
musicians. The work between them will culminate in a gathering of all
musicians involved in the project. We are seeking those
musicians who are in early-stage careers who will benefit from a rare
training opportunity combined with the supported delivery of a workshop to
the public. Participating musicians
will be paid a small bursary for their time on the project. Any interested musicians should email world.unlimited@o2.co.uk for
an application form (closing date November 21st) or call
Graham Radley on 07815 620402 fur further information |

THE The year is 1844. A man answers a newspaper advertisement inviting him
to join a ship bound for arctic waters, to explore the unknown wastes north
of What had he hoped to find? What drives him relentlessly on like Davis
and Baffin before him? Was there something in his past life that compelled
him to travel to this inhospitable place? Or was it simply that he desired
something - the fulfilment of some deep, unarticulated dream. His experiences on the voyage, the loneliness, the strength-sapping
treks across the ice and the merciless cold, change him forever. As his story
unfolds, the certainties of his early life are stripped away and we see what
really drives him as he comes face to face with death. Wed Nov 25th
