The Folk Thing , Ashby Folville, Leicestershire.  Friday 16th & Saturday 17th of April 2010.

The small but perfectly formed Folk Thing Music Festival returns in 2010 for its 2nd year to the beautiful village of Ashby Folville in Leicestershire on the 16th & 17th of April.
We have more than 15 acts on two indoor stages and, as last year, there will be open-mic slots on the Skittle stage for acoustic, folk, blues and heavy wood artists.
There will also be plenty of opportunities for anyone to join in the fun and showcase their talents in sessions in the pub, and in the late night gatherings in the new, cosy fringe marquee with its brace of roaring braziers.  Beautiful village location with family-friendly pub, excellent food and a good selection of real ales.  Large camping field with plenty of space for camper vans.

Breabach

Breabach is one of the most inventive bands to spring from the Scottish folk scene in recent years. Their huge sound is dominated by the twin bagpipes of Calum MacCrimmon and Donal Brown, complemented by the extraordinary fiddle playing of Patsy Reid and by the charismatic yet propulsive guitar of Ewan Robertson, named BBC Scotland’s Young Traditional Musician of

the Year in 2008. Patsy and Ewan both add vocals to the mix, while Donal also step-dances.

"Are there any Trans-Atlantic session lovers out there?

If there are and you are interested in forming a tribute group, please get in touch.

I'm hoping to get a group of musicians together who can play the songs on the programme and go out and perform them for the love of the music. We might make a few quid out of it occasionally, but don't expect too much!
I have rehearsal space in south east London and I have the DVD's as a reference point.

I'm looking for singers, guitars, bass, fiddles, whistles, flutes, ukuleles, bodhrans, mandolins, banjos etc - anything that would fit the sounds.

A few examples from you tube here;

Hi

I'm a folk singer-guitarist of over 35 years experience with interest in contemporary and traditional genres - also Celtic influences.  I'm looking to meet up with other musicians in the Crick, Northants area with a view to working together on arrangements with a view to doing a few local gigs.
Particularly looking for a fiddle player....

I have also recently started an acoustic folk music club at the Royal Oak in Crick - still in its infancy and struggling to attract new blood - would like to attract more musicians and singer to our sessions the third Thursday of every month.

Lyrics wanted

Years ago, probably in the early 70's, I heard a recording of a song  that a friend had on a reel to reel tape. I should have followed up  on it at the time, but didn't; the friend moved away and I'm now  unable to locate him. I remember being struck by the melody and the  only lyrics I can remember are something about a meteor shower and a  hotel in Lexington Kentucky. I have often thought of the song over  the years, and have finally decided to do everything I can to  identify it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
