Holidays

Rainbow Line

There is so much to say about my holidays and so many pictures. If I put all the details here, you will be weeks reading it all so this will be barely more than a list.

However, first some details about what I like on holiday. Back in 1986 when I could first plan ahead and book holidays, I was used to “roughing it” in the navy, so cheap holidays like camping and youth hostels were fine. I wasn’t interested in hotels and I’m still of the same opinion.

I had no interests in seeing old buildings and such like. I wanted good hot sunny weather. I quickly became fascinated with sights such as the national parks in America. I wanted to travel and see things, no interest in a resort or beach holiday. Cheap adventure travel was what I was looking for.

Trek America delivered what I wanted; I did three treks with them to the western USA and visited most of the national parks from the Canadian Rockies to Mexico and a fourth trek from New York to Miami.

On about five occasions I went with a friend of mine on our motorbikes on camping tours visiting all the countries of Western Europe and as far a field as Berlin, Prague and Monte Carlo.

I had two holidays flotilla sailing in Turkey.

I have been back to the States with my boyfriend Adrian and we hired an RV and toured from LA to Texas and back.

I have been to the Canaries on two sailing holidays, one of them followed by a few days in Playa-del-Ingles.

I have been on two gay adventure travel tours to the western USA including rafting down 200 miles of the Colorado river through the Grand Canyon.

I have been back to the States another three times hiring a car and travelling independently firstly around Chicago, then from Cleveland down to Atlanta, then around the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

I have been back to France a few more times with the Gay Bikers Motorcycle Club. See: www.gaybikers.co.uk

I have been on two sailing holidays to the Caribbean. The first was on the tall ship Spirit of Massachusetts with about 20 guys, really enjoyable! Another was on the larger ship, Polynesia, which was totally naked (except the restaurant).

I have been to North Cyprus with some friends for a easy-going sightseeing holiday. I think this holiday which was in the middle of the summer, was the hottest couple of weeks of my life.

I’ve been Tall Ship Sailing in Norway and again in Denmark on the largest Russian Tall Ships in the world – Sedov and Kruzenstern.

I have been to Egypt with Explore Worldwide to see Cairo and for a cruise up the Nile.

I have been to Thailand and Singapore for three weeks, the first two weeks were with a gay tour group visiting Bangkok, Chaing-Mai and Pattaya. I then had an extra week and went on to Phuket for a couple of days, then on to Singapore for the final few days followed by a very long flight home.

I have been to South Africa for three weeks. Firstly I spent a couple of days in Johannesburg then I went on a tour with African Routes for two weeks. We went to Kruger National Park then on via Durban and ending in Cape Town where I stayed for a few more days which included New Years Eve 1997.

My gay social life in the 1990’s introduced me to GNI see www.gaynaturists.org. From 1994 to 2000 I went on seven of their gatherings in Pennsylvania.

I have been to Amsterdam for about three or four weekends.

I have been back to Florida about three times to go to the Orlando area and Key West.

I have been to Boston and Provincetown about three times.

I have been back to Texas and right down south at the Mexican border we went on a canoeing holiday along the Rio Grande River.

I’ve been on two trips to Hawaii; first to Maui and Oahu; then again to the “Big Island”.

I have been sailing on my friend’s yacht based in the Solent many times. We have sailed across to France for quite a few weekends. We have also sailed to the northern Bay of Biscay area and for a couple of four week long summer holidays.

I have been to the CMEN gatherings in Malibu, starting in 2000, and I still go every year.

I still like adventure travel but in recent years my focus has shifted a bit away from tourist sights and towards gay holidays and clothing optional/naked holidays. I also know Los Angeles very well. My holidays there are mostly staying with friends and living like a local.

There are separate write ups on my holidays and other stuff from 2004 so I won’t include here anything after 2003.
