GTa
The GTa was launched in 1990 with the new Metro range. It continued on
the success of the Austin metro mark 2 GTa. It was a slightly lower spec than
the GTi, but was cheaper too. It was not really classed as a hot hatch or performance
model, but it was more of a car for someone who wanted a good looking car
without massive insurance quotes and super performance, a warm hatch as it would
be called today. It gained a 16v engine and a catalyst as standard in 1991
but was soon dropped as the 1.4 Si came out on a very similar spec as part of
the realignment of the Metro range. The GTa was later relaunched
as the GTa SE in 1994
prior to the Rover 100 launch.
