Metro Manhattan
This car was made for a short period in 1993. The interior is certainly different to any of the standard Metro's and with the new wheel trims it does look good. Fully colour keyed bodywork, metallic bumper insets and 'Manhattan' decals really make it stand out. I have to agree with the text below which is quoted from the sales leaflet...
"It not only looks different - it is. Stunning body colours, designer interior, and quality in a class apart."
"If
you're looking for a car that has just as much style and flair as you do, the
Metro Manhattan will suit you to perfection. With coachwork in vibrant
pearlescent Tahiti Blue or deep black, body coloured door mirrors and bumpers,
and sports style wheel trims, it'll get you noticed in the most fashion conscious
circles. Inside - designer looks with 'black hatchings' seat trim and
colour co-ordinated interior.
And because it's a Rover the Manhattan gives you a great deal more besides. Such as convenient remote control central door locking. And the protection of a remote controlled ant-theft alarm, helping to safeguard against unwanted attention. So you can both lock and arm your car at the same time. As an additional precaution, the Vehicle Identification Number is etched on the front and rear screens. You'd hardly expect to find such features as standard on just any small car.
Also
as standard you'll have the pleasure of a sound system that's anything but
average; an electronic tune 3band stereo radio/cassette, with auto reverse among
the refinements. Naturally it's security coded. It's also clearly
Rover branded to further deter the thief.
And because you're driving a Rover, you'll enjoy the music rather more than you might in other small cars. The Rover Metro is definitely the strong and silent type - built with the same robust and thorough engineering as the larger Rovers. Even at speed the 'large car' refinement astonishing.
The same goes for the ride, with Rover's unique suspension design soaking up the bumps. However the Manhattan feels anything but large in tight corners with razor sharp handling and precise steering.
On the road you'll have all the equipment that makes driving
that bit easier. Including programmed wash/wipe - automatic screen
clearing at the touch of a switch. Variable speed intermittent wipe to cope with
anything from light drizzle to a downpour, and rear wash wipe with intermittent
wipe. plus other useful features such as internal adjusters for the door
mirrors.
When you need extra room for luggage, the folding rear seat opens up a vast load space. And there's a choice of 3-door or 5-door models to suit your way of life.
But the choices don't stop there. If you want one of the most economical cars in its class drive the Manhattan 1.4 Diesel. delivering up to 73.9 mpg* at a constant 56mph, and up to 61.4 mpg* on the urban cycle, it's incredibly mean with fuel. Yet it's also great to drive - eager, but quiet too.
If you love the relaxed driving style of an automatic, get behind the wheel of the petrol engine Manhattan 1.4 with advanced Continuously Variable transmission. Smooth and refined, it's been hailed as one of the best small car automatic ever. Drive it and you'll understand why.
Or you can choose the 1.1 and 1.4 petrol engines, both with 5-speed manual transmission as standard. Enjoy fast smooth gear changing and lively performance; or relaxed cruising with extraordinary refinement. But then there's nothing ordinary about the Metro Manhattan. Not just because it's uniquely stylish, but because, above all, it's a Rover."
