Comments: This album shows off some of the earliest recordings by the Groundhogs. The band Toured with John at the end of his 1962 after John Mayall was unable to complete a tour schedule. John was so delighted with the bands music, he invited them to back him on his next UK tour in1965. The album was recorded in London at the end of this tour. The album contains eleven solid blues, John Lee hooker tracks with backing that fits the bill. There are none of the McPhee guitar wizardry trademarks that show his outstanding talent. The album showcases the Hogs as a superb and tight blues combo more that capable of backing one of Americas finest Blues singers. Overall the album has a superb 'lazy' and laid back feel to it. as with later joint projects with visiting blues artists. Tony fits in so well it is difficult to pick out his idiosyncratic style. by and large a superb album to play, save it for a hot summers day with a chilled beer and nothing on your mind, just chill out. A further recording of John Lee Hooker playing with the Groundhogs was televised on British television 'The Beat Room' in 1966. the track was John Lee Hooker playing I'm Leaving (B side to the 1964 hit single Dimples). Later to be broadcast on BBC's 'Sounds Of The Seventies' shown in 1991. There are no other recordings of this track. For further information on Seven Nights and other Hooker
