Shipmates!
Do you recognise any of these lads?

Once you've sailed with them, you never forget them do you?
Shipmates I'm on about. You may forget the names but perhaps a nickname springs to mind or an incident which sparks your memory but, at the very least, you never forget 'old whatsisname' do you? Which is precisely why I've put together a few Shipmates to perhaps jog your memories and maybe identify the unknown men on this page.
UPDATE:
Regarding the photo on this page captioned 'Johnny Dick (Back), John Sharp (Left), Roy Kelsie (Right) and Billy Rendle (Front)'...
John Evans writes to say "The photo of Sharpy.. Johnny Dick"Binky" Roy Kelsey and Billy Rendle. It was taken in the spring of 1960, fishing the East Horns, SE Iceland. How do I know? I was the deckie learner at the time and took that photo. In fact, I have that very photo some where in my home. Axel Olsen was Skipper, George Burrows Mate, Jimmy Gordon Third hand. Oh yeah, probably the BEST crew I ever shipped with."
Thanks for that John, much appreciated mate.

This is me as a young deckie. Handsome sod aren't I?

The first colour shipmate is 'Skimmer' Roberts.

Stan Upcraft (R), Tom Fox (M), who's the other chap though?
Taken on the Thuringia in 1962

Any idea who these two are?
I'm told the trawler is the Ross Howe but can't verify this

This photograph was taken aboard the North Cape
Can you identify the lads gutting in the pounds?

That's Tommy Morris or Marris next to the halibut
Anyone know who the other lads are?

The chap on the right of the photo is the Chief Engineer, Billy Chapman
But who's his mate? Taken on board the Vanessa

Looks like Ginny Wings for tea tonight lads
But who are the two chaps skinning them?

Two unknown deckies (I believe)
Can you identify them?

Johnny Dick (Back), John Sharp (Left), Roy Kelsie (Right) and
Billy Rendle (Front)

Deckies Mr. Sweatman (Left), with Harry Flear (Centre)
Who is that on the right though, and is he the cook?

The only known one here is on the right, Billy Rendle
Does anyone know who his shipmates are?

Another unidentied shipmate here...
...the Skipper by any chance?

On the extreme left is Johnny Pratton.
Photo taken on the 1st August 1965 on the Velinda

Christmas time on board the Vivaria...
...for Deckies Derek Brown and 'Billy Whizz' (Billy Rendle)

The trawler is definitely the Velinda
But who are the three lads in this traditional pose?

More 'Shipmates' to come soon.
