The club has made excellent progress in the County McMullens Trophy, winning the North Area, beating Whitethorn Bowls Club and reaching the Semi-Final to be played at, Townsend St Albans  on Sunday 19th August 2001, commencing at 10 am. The Final will be played, also on the same day commencing at 2.30 pm.

The teams playing the Area Final were as listed below:-

Rink 2: lead, R Wright. no2, B Smith.      no3, B Beale           skip, P Turner.

The McMullens Trophy Semi Final and Final took place at Townsend St Albans on Sunday 19th August 2001, the Morning Session Semi Finals being played out between Cheshunt versus Townsend. 

Cheshunt beating Townsend by 63 shots to 52, and Holwell Versus North Watford, resulting in Holwell winning by 72 shots to 40. 

The Afternoon Final was very close fought and only on the last end, when all was even, did Holwell manage to receive the result, winning the match by three shots, making the final score 52 to 49.

The Club Shirts sponsored by the Pirton Hall Nursing Home, BUPA Care Homes, was most impressive and received some glowing reports from the participants of the other teams in attendance.

Good progress has been made by Holwell Men playing in the North Area Final Wills Trophy Competition, against Royston at Baldock on Monday 20th July, Team members were as follows:-
Andy Pearson lead Bob Smith 2 Colin Males 3 N Houghton skip,
Bernie Drummond lead Paul Gilbert 2 John O;Dell 3 Don McKeand skip,
Bob Wright lead Colin Salter 2 Raymond Smith 3 Mick Reidy skip, Umpire for the match was the ever mindful and alert Ted Day.
After a very keen and competitive game two rinks had completed with one rink winning by 5 shots, and the other by 4 shots, but the third rink still had one end to play, at this point the scores were absolutely level,
in a very tense final end,  Holwell gained the one shot necessary to win overall, final score being 61 to 60 shots.
Holwell now progress to the Hertfordshire County Finals at Townsend St Albans on Sunday 2nd August 2009. (Sadly we were beaten in the Semi Final).
