History

The club was founded in 1956, and was then merely a small three rink village club, founded by W.A.Hawkes, with Chairman J Baines,  Secretary A.Pryor, Treasurer C Furr, without a clubhouse. A hut was completed in 1958 as a pavilion, with a loan from W.A.Hawkes.  The building committee consisted of  F Burr, V Cherry and D Castle.  Annual subscriptions then, were set at 10 shillings, and green fees set at 6 pence per game.

Gradually over the years, with much hard work and effort by the subsequent committee's and membership assistance, the club has extended, and is now a full six rink club. Comprising of a completely new brick building, incorporating  changing rooms plus all the facilities for the benefit of its members and guests. This was obtained with the assistance of a grant from the National Lottery Commission, thanks to the hard and difficult negotiations by, M Mannion and P Turner. The official opening was made on Sunday 9th June 1996 by Tony Alcock M.B.E.

The club is affiliated to the English Bowls AssociationEnglish Women's Bowls AssociationHertfordshire Bowls Association, North Hertfordshire Women's Bowls Association, Letchworth & District. Bowls Association, and Stevenage & Disrtrict Mixed Bowls Association.

The Ladies section was formed in November 1972, with Secretary Mrs A Mannion, Captain Mrs L Bramley and Vice Captain Mrs V.B.Mead. There are of course many others who have contributed to the success of the club, without whose assistance we would not be in this truly fine stage at present, who are too numerous to mention, but are not forgotten.

Membership currently is some fifty strong including both male and female playing mostly mixed bowls. With the exception of County League and Ladies County League. Our success has been excellent for the size of our club.

Amongst our successes are the winning of both the Knock Out Cup and the Mixed League Cup of the now,

Stevenage & District Mixed League, formed in 1987, originating from the Esavian and Dixons Mixed League, which we have won on eleven occasions since.
