For 15 years Sid Skull of Bradenstoke, Wilts has been coordinating a one name study of his family surname and this year he hosted a gathering of others with Skull/ Scull ancestry at Lyneham in Wiltshire.
The surname seems to have originated in the Brecon area and spread over the centuries into Bristol and the villages of Dauntsey[N.Wilts], Ashmansworth, [Hants],Edington, [W.Wilts], and Bitton[Glos].
Sid welcomed 70 people descended from these groups and others from family lines in High Wycombe and Derbyshire and two brothers from Australia. The largest proportion of those attending can trace their
line back to Dauntsey, Wiltshire.
Family trees and photos brought by visitors added to the displays and reports on individual research encouraged beginners to find out more on their family's history.
Sid described how his research began by asking his elderly aunt what she knew of the family and going through a box full of old photos.
The group's genealogical records are now on a database which was accessible throughout the day.
