The greenhouse is a wonderful environment for bringing the warmer weather to the plant that much sooner, and of course it can create the perfect growing conditions for many different plants. In late winter/early spring, the greenhouse is full of new growth emerging from old favourites and new, and cuttings and seedlings start to race away with the protected warmth and lengthening daylight hours.
Cuttings taken before the winter are fairly well estabished by now and begin to grow into mature plants. Any plants that start to get leggy, simply pinch out the tips to encourage bushy growth, I usually leave a few because they lend themselves perfectly for hanging baskets or potted displays when you need a plant that needs to be higher or push out from the top or sides, I then start pinching them out.
Standard Fuchsias :-The greenhouse is perfect for giving these ever versatile plants a head start in late winter/early spring, after they've been overwintered in a frost free attic, shed, garage or greenhouse. First remove any old remaining leaves, then prune back to the size you require at a good pair of buds, brush off old bark and cut back the rootball and repot to a smaller pot with fresh compost. Then spray the whole plant with tepid water daily to get it started into new growth.
