ENVIRONMENT

A

·        BROOMWOOD WOODS There was no further damage to report.

·        TMBC Graffiti removal etc.: No one was available at this meeting to provide an update. Work at AYC on CCTV (According to the Home Office the building is the responsibility of DfES.) did not seem to function effectively. More vandalism was still occurring at AYC and in Broomwood as a whole.

·        Fairywell Woods – NO REPORT was provided.

·        Brooks Drive – Mary E. Reported that the 1st phase of restoration was now completed, there was a need for new trees and it was hoped that there would be many generous donations of new trees from the public and supporters of Friends of Brooks Drive. Mary E. to provide a wish list of trees requested, for publication on web and newsletter. There had been no damage to Brooks Drive reported as a result of recent storms.

·        Old Graffiti on Brooks Drive had now been cleaned off by Contour Housing Association at Peter Court in a very speedy and effective manner – our congratulations to them on their good work in this regard and to our Environmental Wardens.

·        New Graffiti on Brooks Drive noted on a projecting concrete wall - Mary E. to discuss the projecting wall, wall painting and illegal Motorcycle Racing with local residents at Peter Court who have requested that FoBD set up physical barriers to frustrate motorcyclists racing on the Drive.

·        Horses on Brooks Drive – The grass verges should be maintained to enable horses to use the Drive as intended Mary E. to look into this.

·        Bulky Rubbish- £15 Charge still a major problem for some, areas of concern on Redbrook Road and Brooks Drive by Hempcroft Road (Even over 70’s had been spotted emptying a car boot on the croft)    Paul H. has made contact with Altrincham Area Board to request the skips but sadly they have been declined in this instance.

·        TESCO TROLLY(s) in Fairywell Brook – BCA to contact Tesco on behalf of this group to see what can be done – Apparently Tesco are content to lose 5 to 10 per week – This remains to be performed by BCA.

B

·        G-force plan to advertise February activities for young people.  Paul H. to advise.

C

·        SITE PLANS This group needs to view all relevant plans and disabled access provisions therein.

·        LIST of PLANS REQUESTED: BROOKS DRIVE; BRIARFIELD ROAD-SHOPS & MEDICAL CENTRE (IVHA); PLANS for AYC; CARRFIELD AVENUE; REDBROOK ROAD SITE (Civil Defence/Resilience eng – MIA Assembly Point). It would also be useful, in the light of the rapid depletion of local recreational land, to view plan(s) of the footpaths proposed/created at the new Davenport Green - Rural Park Recreational Zone, especially that area of access from Dobinetts Lane/Clay Lane and Brooks Drive – Safety aspects etc.

D

·        FAIRYWELL BROOK: It was thought that the high level of continuing vandalism there might be curtailed if there were some real efforts made to develop new diversionary activities at AYC for our Young People, unable because of the frequent closure of AYC to enjoy a safe meeting place.  Presently some young children are using some of the local bus shelters as a temporary form of alternative youth club; This group thought that it was rather important for BP/TMBC to urgently review the situation, it was not thought safe for young people to have to be forced to huddle together in cold bus shelters at night and in sub zero temperatures.

·        NOTE: The Bridge removed (without prior notice) at Fairywell Brook can leave people stranded more details are requested in respect of any and all blocked and obstructed paths and emergency routes, planned and/or unplanned etc.

TRANSPORT

A

·        The RECENT WRECKING OF BUS SHELTERS along Aimson Road close to Kentmere Place Development, along Mainwood Road and Thorley Lane (close to the Church there) highlighted the pitiful absence of most meaningful diversionary activities for young people of an evening.

B

·        ARRIVA and STAGECOACH LO-LOADING BUSES - It had been observed that both major operators possess state of the art lo-loading buses that sometimes run on 11 and 266 services, the buses are ideal for many residents who rely on wheelchairs and others who use prams and shopping chariots etc. A major problem may often occur when users actually wish to access the lo-loaders – they don’t know when they are due to run and/or when they will be able to access a lo-loader to return. This group suggest that on specified days all buses on the route should be Lo-loaders – perhaps initially only one or two days per week will it be possible to provide lo-loader cover but at least that will be a start until drivers can be fully trained up to use the new buses (It will be vital in some instances to improve access to and from bus stops for wheelchair users).

·        In addition contact with PACT and Dial-a-Ride should be made to see what transport services are available.

·        The introduction of Real Time Information (RTI ) along routes in Stockport etc are viewed with interest, it is encouraging to see innovations like these implemented now that computerisation is becoming a cost effective tool – we hope that some of this RTI will soon be available for Broomwood and on the web too.

C

·        Health Focus Group produced an Audit of accessibility for Briarfield Shops and Areas on Broomwood, the final version is being prepared by PCT.

D

·        New Car Parking at Greenfield and Branson Walks: It had been mentioned that certain residents are now requesting road restricting markings at the new zones, we have not seen any written requests in this respect but we are expecting that some local residents may wish to write in. We understand Cllr. Tony Fishwick is keeping well up-to-date with residents needs there.

A. O. B.

·        AYC:  This meeting suggests that in the Alcove Bay on the Eastside of the building adjacent to the Youth Graff Wall; That there be installed (within the next few days) a good bench and/or other suitable seating arrangement, together with simple good lighting, to provide a temporary solution, until such time as TMBC, DfES and/or the Home Office can properly enable a permanent and consistent financial package to fully reopen AYC as a Youth Club open in the evenings.

·        Alternate Suggestion re AYC: That (within the next few weeks) a suitable shelter be built outside the Altrincham Youth Centre to cater for young people wishing to enjoy meeting their friends in an evening, available at all times when the Altrincham Youth Centre is Closed.
