Last Tango in Whitby
A saucy seaside comedy by Mike Harding
For Pat, recently widowed, this year's charabanc trip to Whitby is tinged with sadness. She is determined to enjoy herself, however, in the company of her old friends - warm kind hearted Jimmy and Joan; gentle, innocent Jessie; Maureen; even garrulous, know-it-all Henry and interfering, out-spoken Kathleen.
The holiday gets off to a lively start as Phil and Edna, "The Shangri-Las", provide evening entertainment in the form of old-time dancing. Phil, too, is trying to enjoy himself, despite being trapped in a dead, loveless marriage, and it is during their first dance together that he and Pat feel the unexpected spark of mutual attraction.
15 speaking, 6 plus non-speaking can be played by 4 Male (middle-age) 8 Female (young, middle-age) with doubling. Extras M and F.
We expect to direct this with at least a cast of 20 and have enlisted the services of Jane Murphy to coach the cast in the occasional old time / ballroom routines. Don't worry if you can act but can't dance try it and
find out.
Read Throughs on Tuesday 20th & 27th, Thursday 22nd & 29th July at 8p.m.
Auditions Sunday 1st & Tuesday 3rd August 2004

Ticket Sales
The Bottle of Champagne for the most tickets sold for Kiss Me Kate was won by Mark Webb.
Thank you to all those members, who sold tickets this season, we had some good audiences. Let's keep it up next season!

Treasure Hunt
If you are fatally attracted to the excitement of riding the ocean waves on a pirate ship; searching for exotic uninhabited islands then hunting for buried treasure by cleverly interpreting ancient parchment maps where 'X' marks the spot; fighting rival pirates for gold and emerald laced trinkets that once belonged to kings and queens, then this probably isn't the treasure hunt for you as our budget doesn't stretch that far.
However if you enjoy tearing around the Berkshire (Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire???) countryside in your own car (or better still a friends car) testing your suspension to the limit on dusty, bumpy country lanes and tossing back your heads in laughter as the other competitors go down blind alleys then this could be for you.
The cars will start to set off at 2.30pm. Things should be done and dusted by 5.30pm.
Also there will be some sustenance in the form of a barbeque (afterwards) laid on by the Hamiltons for those who survive the course.

There are application forms on the table in the theatre foyer. Just return one with entry fee (£2 per person) to Alex Buchan or Sam Rawdon by Wednesday 14th July. (Any queries contact Alex on 0118 942 2670 or alex@buchan22.freeserve.co.uk)
PS - All the roads are flat and tarmac so your suspension should be OK really.

Reviews of Kiss Me Kate
...from a Patron
As a frequent patron of SPT productions this was the most successful for
some time. Director Derek Lockwood got the best out of his cast particularly
Stephen Crompton, Rachel Butcher and Heidi Ashton, all of whose diction was
clear and audible. Mention must also be made of the MD, Mark Webb,
Choreographer, Matt Hart and the two gangsters, Gary Ellmes and Jim Robinson
Last but not least Pete Ashton must be applauded for his clever folding
sets.
My only criticism is that the opening mime scene was too slow and long, but
otherwise congratulations on a slick, amusing and enjoyable show!

Stephen Akehurst.
