2002-07 - Single NIGHTPITCH 'Ikon' (Native Solo Series)
Simon and Graham Sims provide a timeless release of deep electronic music for
Ben Sims’ (really no idea if they’re related) Native solo series. Although the
duo have been releasing material to critical acclaim on London labels such as
UXB and A13 for many years, their names are still new to me. No matter, as all
four tracks here boast exception production prowess whilst demonstrating a real
flair for melodic arrangement. ‘Acid Pool’ stands out for me – a nostalgic
electro-flavoured excursion cloaked in sumptuous strings and underpinned by
well-placed metallic riffs. The remaining compositions are more downbeat yet
provide very capable company. KW
