Welcome to the Waresley and Gransden Woods website

This website is dedicated to providing information on all topics relating to the Waresley and Gransden Woods reserves of The Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire.  For directions to the reserve follow this link.

For the past month updating this website, completing the exterior decoration of the house, my domestic chores and life in general has been put on hold while I've been under going chainsaw training.  The good news is that I'm now competent and will shortly have the certificate to prove it.  So listen out for the plaintive whine of the chainsaw, it'll be me.  At our fortnightly work parties new volunteers are always welcome.  Conservation work involves clearing back trees, saplings and brambles to encourage the regeneration of new growth.  It is also good fun and very satisfying.  If you want to find out more visit the wood on a Sunday listed below or email me.

Work Party Dates:

5 & 19 February 2012
4 & 18 March
Part of the conservation work carried out recently along Lady Clare's Ride has involved the "layering" of hazel.  This is achieved by cutting, bending and then burying the hazel branch in the hope that the end will root itself and grow into a separate tree.  That is the theory!

The conservation work along Meers Ride has been completed. Click here for details. Our efforts are now directed to Lady Clare's Ride.  The image to the far left shows the "wood anemone" bank at the outset of work.  The image to the right the current progress.  Click here for the latest report on the progress of this section.
