NEWSLETTER Spring 2006

30th Anniversary Gala – this year the gala is to be held on May 20th from 5.30 to 7.30pm at the university pool.  This is the one opportunity in the year for the swimmers to compete and it is a fun, friendly occasion with loads of encouragement for swimmers of every standard and credit given for taking part.  Swimmers have a chance to compare their times with ASA standards.  If you haven’t ever been why not try it this year?  One of the events is an all-comers relay so parents can bring their swimming things and have a go!

Anniversary Celebrations – this year the gala presentation evening will be combined with a club barbecue and disco with sports and family fun of all sorts.  The venue will be the Moderns Rugby club at Wilford village and the date is Saturday 24th June.  Please watch the notice board and future newsletters for more details.

Sunday swim - one of the under used opportunities of our club is the Sunday family swim from 8 to 10 am – some weeks there are plenty of people there and other weeks it is very quiet.  If your children are up bright and early why not come along?  You can bring guests (they pay just a little more than you do) and the flumes are open from 9am.

Congratulations! - to the teachers who recently completed Teacher 1 training and as always many thanks to our new and long standing teachers for all the time they devote to the club.

Teachers’ Reminders –

Could parents of children below the age of 8 please remain at the poolside throughout the lesson.

Could all parents please make sure that their child’s teacher is aware of any medical conditions e.g. asthma.

Please feel free to have a chat with your child’s teacher before or after their lesson if you have any concerns or would like to discuss their progress

Cubicles!  - please do not leave clothes in the cubicles.  Many of you have complained about this and we would ask everyone to leave the cubicles empty for others to use.  There are plenty of lockers (or chairs/tables/floor space!) around the pool.  But thank you to those who have started leaving cubicles clear – there has been an improvement!

Door Duty – we do encourage all members of the club to help out on the door on Saturday mornings for an hour.  If everyone helps, you only need to do it once a year!  A committee member is always on hand to help.  Please sign up using the list on the Club notice board.

Waiting list – we have no spaces for lessons at the moment so there is a waiting list in operation.  If you have younger children who will be ready to start lessons soon then please let Jo Lyons know (number below).  If you are going to be absent for more than 3 weeks and want to keep your place please tell the teacher as places are reallocated if people don’t use them and if you are stopping for whatever reason it helps if you let us know.
