Wanted: People to stand and serve as Town Councillors.

What does the Town Council do?  How much time would I need to give?  What do I get out of doing this?
Next all out elections are in May 2003.
The Conservatives would like to take control of Town Council at these elections and we need you to help us. Over the next two years the Conservatives will be looking to write, promote and, if we win, implement a radical agenda for the Town Council.

The Town Council is elected every four years and they are all out elections. With your help we feel we could take control of Hatfield Town Council at those elections.

Current position: Labour 9 Conservatives 6.
Labour control: South - 2 seats
Labour marginals: Conservatives North - 3 seats, West - 3 seats
Labour marginals: Liberal Democrat: Central - 3 seats
Conservative marginals: East - 3 seats
Conservative control: Newgate Street - 1 seat

At the 2003 elections we need to obtain 8 seats to have a majority. To have a chance of real implementation of a programme we need more seats. We will therefore need to look at holding East and taking North and West.

We're therefore looking for the following:

Hatfield East 3 Candidates
Hatfield West 3 Candidates
Hatfield North 3 Candidates
Hatfield South 2 Candidates
Hatfield Central     3 Candidates

Anything else I should know?

Yes there is.

We will be operating a system of collective decision making, where decisions within the group are decided by the majority and all members have to fall in line. Whilst this principle sometimes works against you, it can also work for you. Also, any manifesto commitments must be adhered too. What we will require is consistency between Town and District Groups over a series of issues relating to Hatfield.

Whilst you could resign at anytime and cause a by-election which will cost Hatfield Town Taxpayers money, we would like you to run for the four year term you were elected. If your circumstances change then we would wish you to cause a by-election with the other local elections in early May.
