I've just finished reading The British Film Guide 6 - Get Carter.
Everything you could possibly want to know about the film. Researched, written and packaged immaculately by Steve Chibnall. A compact 116 pages with no less than 264 reference notes.

"That each of the new wave of (modern) gangster films proved to be artistically inferior to Mike Hodges' effort served only to increase the esteem in which his film (GC) was now held."

I have just recently seen "Hit Man" (a 1972 blaxploitation version of GC) which I found highly entertaining and exceedingly funny. I was then curious to see the Stallone version of GC so I bought the video. BIG MISTAKE. I had heard that the movie was bad, but quite frankly I was truly shocked. The word bad is inadequate. Why on earth does Michael Caine appear in such trash?
On the credit side, it has a pretty cool interpretation of the Get Carter theme in the sountrack.

A couple of extra interesting "jack links" added.

The tour took place on 06/07/02. A high spirited performance was delivered by the cast who all deserve hearty congratulations. Well done to Chris for his organisation and enthusiasm. Real good fun.
